Imagine the next Halo game opens exactly where Halo 3 ended.
Master Chief floats through space.
“Wake me… when you need me.”
Cut to black.
Then we see Cortana’s memories....Halo 4. Halo 5. Infinite. Everything that came after Halo 3… distorted, fragmented, escalating into a horrifying dream.
Suddenly...
Cortana wakes.
She looks around.
Silence.
None of it happened.
It was all just a nightmare buried inside her neural matrix… the way a human mind can turn its fears into dreams.
Then we hear:

And the pod opens.
HALO IS BACK.

I feel bad for the people that were involved in running Halo events other than that I don’t feel bad for the people at the studio. The writing has been on the wall for a long time and nobody there should be surprised.
