A last roll of the dice π²
The absolute most stressful and worst part of organising #OyaMakeWeGroove is getting a venue. No matter how early I plan, something goes wrong.
2 years ago, I was sure to use the then almost to be completed Sporting Lagos facility. The owners of Nigeria said "not this time".
Last year, our venue was revoked Wednesday before the Saturday. In one day, my man Adedeji (e no dey ever like acknowledgement) worked magic and pulled all favors to get Access Bank to give us their car park In Oniru as an *exceptional* one time favor. Approval came after work hours On Friday for a Saturday event. I'm forever grateful ππΎ.
As a result of that experience, I finalized the venue for this year, last December. I visited it with the person in April. When it was time to activate in September, akα»₯kα» entered. Stories. Venue no dey available again.
By then, the very few manageable places have mostly been booked. My team has frankly, looked everywhere.
-
In a throw of the last dice, I'm here to make a public request: If you know or have access to a space that can fit 500-1000 people in VI, Ikoyi or Lekk, please holla.
If against the odds I can see a bar with a large outdoor space, that's would be wonderful. Open fields (we dey call am garden) can work. Carparks too. Please DM, drop a comment or send me a message.
It would be an irony if I could manage to keep this on during the COVID years, living 7,000 kms away from Laogs, but fail at a simple huddle. Getting a venue.
Or maybe it is the clearest signal to force my coconut head to bring this to a conclusion, and begin owning my Decembers for the first time since 2016π.
Either way, I'm making this final push ππΎ
Thank you.

I turned 30 yesterday! π₯Ήβ€οΈ
Looking back at my 20s, I genuinely feel like I did everything I set out to do, and then some.
Here are some of my favourite highlights from the last decade:
β
Got legally married to the love of my life β€οΈ
β
Became an engineering executive
β
Wrote 9 books, 7 of which are published
β
Earned a master's degree in Computer Science from Georgia Tech
β
Earned a business diploma from Stanford Graduate School of Business
β
Got into one of the best MBA programs in the world
β
Gave 200+ talks across six continents
β
Won multiple national and international awards, received recognition from royalty, and even got featured in New York's Times Square
β
Founded a community that has created learning opportunities for 13,000+ people
β
Became a Computer Science mentor at universities across Nigeria, the UK, and the US
β
Taught thousands of people around the world through courses, books, and other educational resources
β
Relocated internationally twice and built a life across three countries
β
Joined a venture advisory board
β
Became a published researcher
β
Built businesses and technology products, including an AI powered platform I'm incredibly excited about (launching soon)
β
Built financial independence, enjoyed the rewards of my hard work, and treated myself to some of the finer things in life
β
Made amazing new friends, reconnected with old ones, and learned to let go of friendships that no longer served me
And somewhere in between all of that, I lived, loved, travelled, made mistakes, learned lessons, and grew into a woman I'm incredibly proud of.
My 20s were everything I wanted them to be. I worked hard, took chances, and made so many of my dreams come true.
I spent my 20s becoming the woman I always wanted to be. Now I get to spend my 30s enjoying everything I've built, dreaming even bigger, and kicking ass while I'm at it! π₯β€οΈ
