Now in @Health_Affairs led by @hannahojames we find that the use of health risk assessments increase spending in Medicare Advantage by over $12B a year in additional spending due to increased measured coding 1/ doi.org/10.1377/hlthaff.2023… 1@BrownHSPP @BrownUniversity @Health_Affairs

Check out this paper led by our terrific PhD candidate @hannahojames that finds huge growth of enrollment in MA among benes with ADRD, keeping pace with the general pop. Despite this, we still know relatively little about how well MA delivers care for benes with chronic illness
MA enrollment is has grown quickly, and so has enrollment in MA among those those with ADRD.
📣Check out our latest paper (w/@djmeyers2 @amal_trivedi) documenting these trends over time ➡️ highlighting importance of understanding the performance of MA for persons with ADRD.

Study from @BrownHSPP found sustained Medicare Advantage enrollment growth among persons with Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD), mirroring overall MA enrollment trends, but higher rates of disenrollment to TM among those with ADRD. ja.ma/3EHaCxK
Thanks to generous reviewers and the supportive editorial team @JAMAHealthForum that enabled us to publish this work!
NPs/PAs are not new clinicians by any means, but up until this work, we really didn't have a strong grasp of the relative volume of care provided by them.
New paper in @bmj_latest from @sadiqyp et al. indicates that 1 in 4 visits are delivered by non-physicians. Read on:

Price indices are decidedly wonky, but I'm grateful that this work was of interest to so many folks at #ARM2023
After a few days recovering, I want thank everyone who voted and @AcademyHealth for the generous recognition. I had a great time, and this was the cherry on top!

If you use race/ethnicity codes in Medicare data check out this new paper led by @BrownHSPP PhD student Andrew Huang. We find that while the RTI code is "ok" for some categories but not great for NA/AI and people who identify with more >1 race/ethnicity 1/ onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
📣New publication out in @HSR_HRET📣 If you’re interested in commercial health care cost trends and state-level variation, check out our new paper "Comparing ambulatory commercial spending in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, 2016-2019." 📚🔍

Efforts to restrain commercial health care spending growth should seek to improve the value of health care spending by reducing extensive price variation and addressing excessively high prices.

I am grateful for the collaboration between my mentors at @Brown_SPH (@ibwilson_health & @CKollerMilbank) and @Mass_HPC (@DavidIAuerbach & Laura Nasuti) & hope other states embarking on efforts to evaluate/moderate health cost growth will find this framework useful.
