sfi application ready to submit and were sat at the computer doing it when we had an email saying the budget had been 100% allocated in less than 6 hours. Tomorrow we have to decide to plough up and plant over 30 years worth of conversation work.

Unfollowing Ben must be making these claims in bad faith, because I’ve explained to him that it’s not true and presented the clear evidence and stats last week Not a serious person on these issues Wouldn’t trust him or his rewilding friends as far as I could throw them

There are serious welfare issues with the way sheep are managed in the uplands today. They are not shepherded in any meaningful sense, and natural mortality (and suffering) are unacceptably high. This on top of hopeless economic, social and ecological outcomes. A total reliance on monocultures of sheep has been a disaster for Britain’s most precious landscapes, for the people who live in them and for the sheep themselves.

In these deeply unstable times, our country's ability to feed itself is vital. And yet England is now the only country in Europe that does not use its farm payment scheme to support its farmers to produce food. I'm urging the Prime Minister to get serious about food security.

To be clear, I have banned all Labour MPs from my pub, except one: Markus Campbell Savours. He’s welcome any time. And not just because the Labour Party has now sacked him.

Tonight, the Liberal Democrats will be voting against the Government's appalling family farm tax. The Conservatives threw farmers under a bus by botching the transition to the new payment schemes. And now Labour are hammering farmers with a huge tax bill.

Most people might not realise it, but our ability to feed ourselves sits upon a knife edge after decades of neglect & apathy from successive governments. Will @UKLabour continue to push British farmers over the edge or will they listen to reason on IHT? dailymail.co.uk/debate/artic…

Or ‘Do you have coherent ideas or plans to solve the issues of vital national importance?’ ‘Or have you been sent to tow the party line, which is completely batshit?’

What utter bilge! You’ve done nothing, other than carry out the Tory government scheme that was starting to work, only for you to cut the funding for it off at the knees, and leaving existing scheme holders in limbo! Any success is NOTHING to do with your turd polishing

We cut a field of triticale a month ago ago for forage, normally we get re growth but as it so dry it’s all died, thinking of dd a cover in until we plant again in spring and then potentially leaving it as undersown? What’s best, white clover? @FredVLarsen @mydirectdriller

Another brutal take down of another inept, pathetic and clueless government! And the result will be Reform taking over, which will be a guarantee of another inept, pathetic and clueless government 👇
Labour have had 14 years to work out what to do. Instead we’ve had an entire year of Tory chaos, rebadged with a red rosette.

During a time of deep international turmoil, the UK's food security is absolutely critical. And yet our farmers are being hammered by cuts to Basic Payments, hit with the family farm tax, and thrown under a bus in trade deals. We need to back our farmers to produce food.

You’ve sold farmers down the river and environmentalists are astonished with your cuts to vital nature restoration work. Why should we vote for you? Farage is a vile opportunist but you’ve literally opened the door for him. It’s maybe time to listen and change tack…???

Utterly appalling decision. These cuts threaten both the livelihoods of farmers (many of whom are already earning less than the minimum wage), and the future of our treasured environment. The Chancellor must think again.
Exclusive: Labour will be making deep cuts to the nature friendly farming fund in the spending review, with many farmers unable to apply. Drastically changes concept of post brexit farming payments meant to improve nature on all farmland theguardian.com/environment/…

10 years after the predator control experiment in Northumberland that saw a 3x increase in bird breeding success, researchers returned to see what had happened to the predator and bird populations: 📈 Fox: 78% increase 📈 Carrion Crow: 127% increase 📉 Black Grouse: local extinction 📉 Grey Partridge: local extinction 📉 Red Grouse: 71% decline 📉 Golden Plover: 81% decline 📉 Snipe: 76% decline 📉 Curlew: 24% decline 📉 Lapwing: 58% decline

They don’t understand at all The deal was that farmers would be paid to produce public goods - natural externalities at a market rate - the more they produced the more they’d get paid That deal was created because:
I think I understand what Daniel Zeichner means when he says farmers need to operate in a business-like way. But as @amcarmichaelMP says, the implication of his words for thousands of businesses across the country is that they are currently not doing so, which is more than a little insulting.

He’s a con man and unfortunately a lot of farmers will fall for his shit because he wears a flat cap and Barbour. Will say anything to get in power but as history has proved he is full of false promises. A very dangerous man indeed

Why would OUR government put their voices and interests ahead of our own, or our real food producers This government (like the last) seems to be completely in the pocket of corporates and working against our health and our nature DEFRA too, or why go along with this?
