ao3 going down for a month is an awfully apt conclusion to the past two weeks of people acting weird towards fic writers

every time AO3 goes down it's made evidently clear how much ppl need fic writers but don't show up for them.

One thing that does irk me about fan responses to Ao3 being down, and not just this particular time, is the emphasis on how they cannot go without their bedtime fanfics but the majority of readers do not give their favorite fics or writers the engagement they deserve.

am I too woke of a fic writer to be a little conflicted about fics being downloaded to personal drives without the author’s knowledge and shared/read without the author gaining any site engagment or is this something I should brush off and get over /gen
Ohhh so now you want the fanfics back? The ones that you were saying sucked ass and need to be “critiqued”?

y'all are confused because you're treating fanfic writers like influencers but they're reacting like regular people.

everybody wants to “critique” (they mean review but do not know the difference) but none of them offers to beta. nobody offers to actually put in work as a critique partner. they don’t want to form relationships and community. they want to humiliate you for a quick dopamine fix

well no, some of us were widely disliked at school for being “sjw”s and annoyingly political LMFAOOOOOOO
There is such a funny posture (by which I mean self contempt) some fanfic authors have towards their own genre of work.
You are not better than anyone because you think you’re allowed to say mean things! You’re just mean!
Every two months the topic of whether the internet should be allowed to critique fanfic comes up again, and I’d like to offer this perspective:
I never see anyone arguing that we need to critique fanart. Only fanfic lol
hot take #2, the fanfic authors I see arguing that we should be allowed to critique other ppl’s fanfic unprompted are genuinely some of the worst writers I’ve read

i have a mfa in creative writing lol and i don't think any of you are as good at giving feedback as you think you are. we forget that giving feedback is a skill just as much as writing is one. i'm sorry but i don't need random people's opinions on my fanned fiction.

There's no amount of name calling or shaming that'll justify making the wife out to be the villain in this story. She's innocent and has a right to say if she is not interested in co-parenting. How she deals with her husband is her business too.

I saw a post on Reddit that said, “When you walk through a museum, you’re not just looking at art. You’re moving through centuries of people trying to explain love, grief, power, beauty, and belonging.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen a museum described so beautifully.
