Some truly helpful thoughts from #ApplesNeverFall showrunner @MelanieMarnich at Screencraft Summit 2024 @screencrafting:
- write your old school backstory for every character -
- try looking at two story lines and ask yourself if you can flip the characters attached to them - you might find something surprising -
- find the note behind the note - your “soul goal” is to Make. It. Better.
Some great wisdom drops from @liztigelaar at @screencrafting summit:
- don’t be afraid to write spec scripts, to practice mimicking others’ voices and learn how the show’s puzzle works
- sometimes small rooms are great so no one has to fight to be heard
- when showrunners leave the room, they risk an “us vs them” dynamic, so best to keep the collab flowing
- comedy isn’t always about the laugh…it’s about being truthful!!
