They’re coming down! It’s the last week to view my bunshinsaba billboard, now with some extra spice. Big thanks to Dan CashMachine for the awesome opportunity and to everyone who took the time to visit!
In the background, though it’s hard to see, I’ve included my favorite chainlink fencing, some palm trees, and the San Gabriel Mountains. She’s my powerful LA Mountain God, and she’s watching over us.
This piece is my interpretation of the god paintings often hung above the altars of Korean mudang shamans. The sanshin mountain god stands with her attendants, with a baby in her arms, while her loyal tiger protects her.
Don’t worry about me, I’m doing okay. And because these paintings are important to me, I’m still drawing and dreaming of this show.
*POSTPONED INDEFINITELY* - This piece 우리의 기도를 들어주소서 (Hear Our Prayer) was to be the 1st of my solo show, GAJIMA/DON’T GO, meant to open this wknd at @thesedaysla. BUT I had to take a break from all work for my health, so I’ve postponed a 2nd time, with no future date.
Sunday! I’ll be at the @heavymannerslib Comics Fair! Will I have comics? No! But I’ll have stickers, prints, planners, & possibly a new print of the billboard art! Come! Or don’t! This’ll probably be the last fest/fair/pop-up I do for a long time! Amazing flier by @SuperPhamicom!
I’ve been working on some drawings I’m not ready to share yet, but while working, I drew this mudang shaman taking a smoke break, and I felt compelled to show you. I’ve been calling her 큰이모 (Big Aunt) and she’s been showing me some shit this year 🔥
I’ve included close-up details here, inc a Shin Saimdang-style monarch & a Korean goodbye letter, signed by me. This drawing is a direct precursor to the pieces I’m currently working on, so every time you stop and look at the billboard, I can feel my painting powers grow!
