Inside a human brain when reading a book.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This video shows time-lapse of cultured neurons connecting via growth cones in a lab dish, not processes in a living human brain while reading. Similar real clips by Dr. Lila Landowski show developmental wiring; this one's exact source is unconfirmed.

“A society that mocks virtue prepares its own collapse.”
- Plato
When a society begins to ridicule virtue, it weakens the moral foundation that allows it to endure. In The Republic, Plato emphasized that justice, honesty, and self-discipline are more than admirable qualities—they are essential principles that create trust and hold communities together.
When integrity becomes something to mock rather than respect, cynicism can take its place and social trust begins to disappear. As corruption and self-interest grow, the common good becomes secondary, leaving a society increasingly divided and vulnerable to decline from within.

“The real danger is not that computers will begin to think like men, but that men will begin to think like computers.”
- Sydney J. Harris
Human progress has always been closely connected to the tools we create.
From humanity’s early mastery of fire to the emergence of language, writing, and increasingly sophisticated machines, every major innovation has expanded what people are capable of while gradually influencing the way we think, work, and live.
Artificial intelligence represents the newest stage in this ongoing evolution. Rather than something entirely separate from humanity, AI is a creation of human ingenuity—one that greatly increases our ability to analyze information, identify patterns, and develop new ideas with remarkable speed and scale.
Whether AI ultimately becomes harmful or beneficial will largely depend on how people choose to develop and use it. The technology itself does not possess intentions of its own.
Many of the greatest concerns surrounding AI come from human choices: placing too much power in the hands of a small number of organizations, becoming so dependent on technology that independent judgment weakens, or failing to adjust education and economic systems as society changes.
At the same time, AI is already serving as a valuable partner in areas such as scientific research, medical diagnosis, engineering, and creative work. Its greatest potential may come from using it to strengthen and extend human abilities rather than attempting to replace them.

This galaxy is a little extra.
Meet Messier 106, a spiral galaxy with an extra set of arms. These two additional arms are made of gas heated up by jets from the galaxy’s central black hole. The jets’ superheated shockwaves are depicted in royal blue by @chandraxray.
