Chamique Holdsclaw HOF speech: "Before all of this there was Astoria Houses in Queens NY…When I was growing up girls were not allowed to play…but those young men saw something in me, advocated for me, and made sure I had a place on that court…I will never forget Ron Ron (Metta World Peace)––'anyone tries to hurt her I'm knockin you out'––that was protection, respect, belief…before the world knew my name, they made sure I belonged…I was surrounded by greatness…I remember watching Speedy Claxton play at Elmcor––the rhythm, confidence, energy––that was New York Basketball. Lamar Odom…I realized I needed to elevate my game…Being around greatness at a young age demanded greatness from me"
