Upon release from prison in Lebanon, he returned to Berlin in November 2025.
The police arrested him and he was placed in pre-trial detention for preparing serious state-endangering violent acts, primarily his attempts to join the Islamic State.
He was convicted in May 2026, but tried as a juvenile for the offences.
He was then sentenced by a youth panel to one year and ten months in prison - with one professional judge and two lay judges.
But they immediately suspended this for six months and released him with a condition to take part in a deradicalisation programme.
Suicidally empathic judges could have prevented this by sending him to prison.
