๐จ Damage to two international fiber links on Route Nationale 1 in #Haiti caused a complete #Internet outage on Digicel Haiti (AS27653). Traffic dropped to zero at ~17:15 UTC (13:15 local) on Oct 27 and remains down.

One BGP UPDATE message can withdraw 1,133 prefixes, where overall average is 2.87. We read a week of public MRT updates (20.8B route entries) to see how routers actually batch their routes before sending to collectors. #BGP buff.ly/3Yay4zN

At 12:17 UTC six RouteViews collectors went silent for ~2 minutes. From 12:21 every peer re-sent its full table. 35M UPDATEs in those two 15 minute slots, against 3.2M a day earlier. Largest single file: 146 MB where 4 MB is normal. Looks like UO-side session resets. #BGP

We are proud to release DuckDB 2.0.0, named after the cinnamon teal (Spatula cyanoptera), a striking reddish-brown duck found in the western Americas. ๐
DuckDB 2.0.0 is the biggest DuckDB feature release so far. It ships a polished version of the Quack protocol, which turns DuckDB into a full-fledged server. It improves performance and lowers costs through supporting asynchronous I/O, a first-class VARIANT type, and a dedicated โagent modeโ. It also empowers extension developers with a new SQL parser that allows adding new statements, clauses, and keywords, a new API to build on, and a new mechanism to distribute extensions more easily.

one thing that made this click for me โ with decision models, you have to define categories and it returns probabilities that the input matches those categories.
but so much of the data we interact with is completely new to us. how can you define categories for something you've never read?
with clairic, you can extract values directly from the inputs, without any premeditated categories. the pipeline becomes clairic to extract values โ clef to make decisions with those values โ LLMs to take actions on those decisions. all of these models run on Workers AI.

The bandwidth would be 10x worse if you fetch RIPE RIS #BGP data from outside Europe, or fetch RouteViews from outside US (or even Oregon). Data locality is serious there.
The recent @Cloudflare R2 overview with usage and cost displayed upfront is quite nice.
(Also I canโt believe itโs 30 cents)
