Ciara Mageean died this morning. A light has gone out in the world. Authentic, talented, decent. Her kindness and wonderful personality was a joy to watch and see. Then came her iconic sporting achievements.
When we sat down with Ciara for the GAA Social in July, she received disappointing news the day before. Ciara didn’t want to cancel, so we recorded on the Tuesday. It’s 90 minutes Oisin & myself will always treasure. She was the best of us.
To Thomas, I’m so sorry. She was mad about you. To the Mageean family, all her great friends and the Portaferry community- what a stunning human being, to call one of your own. This is so unfair.
I’ve never met a person who met Ciara, who didn’t love her. A one off.

Students in Limerick went on a rampage vandalising a house in College Court, Limerick overnight.
Gardai have confirmed they are conducting investigations.
Several of these idiots are clearly identifiable and hopefully face very serious consequences.
In the midst of a housing crisis they do this? Scumbags. Throw the book at them!

🏠 I pressed Irish PM Micheál Martin on the pressure Ireland’s rapidly growing population is putting on housing — and whether Irish citizens should get priority for social housing.
Martin acknowledged the demographic change has been “very dramatic.”
But he said: “You can’t switch off an economy either.”
I also asked @MichealMartinTD about figures showing 42% of households on Dublin’s social-housing waiting list were foreign nationals.
“Our position is basically citizens get priority in terms of housing.”
He also put Ireland’s transformation in historical context, pointing to the mass emigration that followed the Irish Famine. 🥔☘️
“Ireland had 8 million people in 1845 before the Great Famine. That led to the big wave of Irish people migrating to come to America.” 🇺🇸
His answer to the housing crunch?
Build more homes to match the growth in population. 🏗️👷♀️
