“Before October 7th” by Bea Jaspert.
On a premonition I had, 2 years before the massacre in Israel in October 2023, how I feared the return of the Holocaust, and how it increasingly seems my fears may be justified. open.substack.com/pub/beajas…

I feel quite emotional reading this.
It came years too late but I pay my respects to RCEW CEO Ciara Bergman and the Board of Trustees who I know will have pored over this. Thank you.
Women victim-survivors of sexual & domestic violence & abuse deserve women only spaces. Finally.
A clear statement from @RapeCrisisEandW
- Every adult and child who has experienced sexual violence deserves access to to support
- The Rape Crisis National Service Standards recognise the benefit of women only services and spaces
- RCEW Centres MUST provide women-only spaces and services
- This does not mean that they cannot *also* provide services (or referral) for male survivors including trans-identifying men.

Karen delivered this speech at a meeting in the Scottish Parliament in January 2020. I've never seen the case for single sex VAWG services as comprehensively made as it was here. Still worth reading now. kareningalasmith.com/2020/01…

This is quite a disturbing account, apparently in New York. Suggests Israel caused the train crash in Spain today. Sometimes this platform makes me feel like one of those people who went to Bedlam to gawp at the lunatics.

The right blames it all on the left.
The left blames it all on the right.
It is BOTH.
Racism and misogyny are features on BOTH the left and the right.
We need to call it out on BOTH, including on our “own side”.
Accordingly I’m reposting this 🧵
Evidence of feminists/women’s organisations ignoring, denying, justifying &/or celebrating the Oct 7 massacre/rapes/atrocities.

Around 300 people have gathered to protest in Jerusalem's Paris Square, Tel Aviv's Mesila Park and UNESCO Square in Haifa, calling for the formation of a Jewish-Arab government.
Protesters carried signs with slogans including "Freedom for all, from the river to the sea" and "Yes to a Jewish-Arab government."

I can’t stress this enough:
The shift in Israeli discourse of political legitimacy is new and real.
Never before had coalition with Arab parties been discussed so openly, and old taboos reexamined.
More so than in 2021-22, when Bennet and Lapid joined forces with Mansour Abbas.
It will be a battle, of course, but full Jewish-Arab political alliance is finally on the mainstream agenda.
Replying to @BernardBessis
What’s new and encouraging is that Arab participation in the government is finally normalized in mainstream Israeli discourse.
Completely agree we need to maintain integrity and principles -it’s not ok to ally with racists and misogynists.
But important to acknowledge that racism and misogyny are not just features of the right, but also very much present on the left.
We MUST call it out on our own side.
