Sometimes I wake up and genuinely think, thank God I’m Filipino.
I don't believe I would have the same perfect taste buds, sense of humor, personality, or appreciation for food if I grew up any other way.
Being Filipino meant growing up surrounded by family who are goofy, chaotic, kind and caring, super loud, and are all somehow unapologetically themselves. There’s always somebody laughing too hard, making a corny joke, somebody yelling from across the house instead of walking over, somebody randomly singing karaoke, and a lola trying to make sure you’ve eaten even though you literally just finished eating.
And the food! We grow up eating combinations that might sound wild to other people, but to us it’s just normal. Eggs with ketchup and rice. Hot dogs with rice. Corned beef with rice. Spam with rice. Fried Chicken with rice. (I never ate chicken by itself ever) If there’s no rice, it's wrong.
I also still eat most food with just my hands, I swear it makes the food taste better!
