DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING IN BRAZIL? 🇧🇷 Brazil is in serious risk of returning to one of its scariest eras. Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently in prison for attempting a coup after losing the 2022 election (theguardian.com/world/2025/n…), is narrowly leading the presidential race, with the runoff set for October 25. We have roughly two weeks to overturn this result. It is possible, but we need all the help we can get. The outcome of this election could have consequences far beyond Brazil, potentially dealing a major setback to progressive politics and climate preservation, by turning one of the world’s largest economies into yet another powerful ally for U.S. President Trump. The Bolsonaro family has already made their intent to align itself closely with him very clear (washingtonpost.com/world/202…). Brazil is a huge country, and reaching everyone with accurate information is extremely difficult. For that reason, we’ve put together this list of three ways you, outside Brazil, can help us: 1. Look around you. Talk to your Brazilian friends, family, coworkers, classmates, workers in places you frequent: Outside Brazil, Brazilian citizens can vote in +100 countries around the world. With every vote counting, it’s essential that voters abroad take part too. A Brazilian citizen who didn’t vote may be right next to you, just one small conversation away from realizing that their vote matters, even from far away. 2. Help boost engagement: engage in posts with likes, reposts, and comments. Meta is openly affecting Lula’s profile from reaching people, banning ads and blocking the campaign’s account (newsletters.brazilian.report…). We know the algorithm often does not favor left-wing content, so we can only count on people to help reverberate the message. Tag your local activists: Lula openly supports a free Palestine, the preservation of the Amazon rainforest, women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, policies that protect and include Black and Indigenous communities, welcoming immigrants, religious freedom, combating poverty by supportting low-income communities, the sovereignty and strength of Latin American countries, diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution over military intervention, and universal access to healthcare and education — topics opposed by Flávio Bolsonaro. Let your local activists and movements know that this fight is also about keeping a voice as influential as Lula’s among global leaders, speaking up for those who need it most.
