We’ve been saying for a while that all politics is no longer local, but nat’l. No better example of this than incumbents in TX and CA allowing their CD’s to be altered for the betterment of nat’l party.
In the “old days” even safe incumbents would balk at giving up any bit of their territory to take-one-for-the-team.

Musk is eviscerating the civil service, claiming it's bloated, unproductive. Michael Lewis's new book about civil servants doing amazing things is a powerful rejoinder. My review of “Who is Government?” for the @monthly-->

In politics, many believe the worst epitaph is "loser." Some are not strong enough to cope with defeat.
Jimmy Carter lost an election and spent the rest of his life settling conflicts, conquering disease and building homes for the homeless.
He was in every way a winner.

Pleased to say that the paperback of my book, American Ramble, hits bookstores today, jazzed up with a whole new cover that tells the story of my ruminative wander from Washington to NYC. Fits perfectly in any rambler's backpack!

This profile of Katie Porter by @boreskes falls squarely into the can’t miss section of your political reading. Her bluntness comes through strongly. She would not be a typical senator. latimes.com/california/story…

The WSJ lost a group of brilliant editors and reporters today due to layoffs in our Washington bureau: all deeply sourced, experts on their beats and full of camaraderie and decency. A massive loss for our journalism. To other news orgs: Please hire them.

The @WSJ DC bureau lost so many talented, wonderful reporters today. The bureau was my home for eight years and every reporter there is brilliant, deeply sourced, generous and hard-working. They all deserve to be hired immediately.

Solidarity with my @latguild colleagues picketing in LA and DC today even though snow kept me away. We’re asking management to follow the seniority protections in our contract and give us more information about how many people they plan to fire and who will make the decisions.
