πŸŽ₯ Part 3 of 3 | An interview with Alex Neil ❄️ In the final part of our interview, Scotland’s former Housing Minister discusses what sleeping pods outside our shelter reveal about the housing crisis. He raises concerns about exposure to winter weather and violence, calling for greater emergency accommodation capacity to get people safely indoors. 🏠 Alex also outlines changes he believes are needed to build more affordable homes: training more apprentices, making land available sooner and speeding up planning approvals. He argues that Scotland needs a comprehensive transformation in housing policy. His closing message is a direct invitation to @ScotGovFM First Minister @JohnSwinney visit our shelter, see the circumstances people are facing and recognise the urgency of action. Thank you, Alex, for taking the time to listen and share your perspective, and to everyone who has watched this three-part conversation. πŸ’™ πŸ’¬ After hearing Alex’s proposals, what is the most important action you want Scotland’s political leaders to take? πŸŽ₯ Part 2 of 3 | An interview with Alex Neil What would Scotland’s former Housing Minister do differently today? 🏠 Alex calls for a housebuilding programme on an unprecedented scale, alongside emergency accommodation that keeps people safe until they can move into a permanent home. He stresses that help must extend beyond one or two nights. He also argues for significantly greater emergency shelter capacity and proposes redirecting funding from areas such as cycling investment towards housing and accommodation. 🀝 Discussing @GlasgowCC @Bell45 City Council and the Scottish Government, Alex says the existing partnership needs to deliver at a much greater scale, with tackling the housing crisis a shared priority. His message is clear: people need somewhere safe tonight and a realistic route to a home of their own. Part 3 is coming soon. πŸ’¬ Which of Alex’s proposed priorities would make the greatest difference, and why? We would welcome your views in the comments.

πŸŽ₯ Part 1 of 3 | An interview with Alex Neil Scotland’s former Minister for Housing and Communities shares his thoughts on Homeless Project Scotland and the housing emergency. His message about our work is clear: β€œYou’re not just providing overnight accommodation, you’re saving lives.” Alex explains why emergency shelters remain essential while Scotland works towards ensuring everyone has a decent home. His recognition means a great deal to our volunteers and the people who depend on their care. πŸ’™ 🏠 He also discusses his proposal to use pension fund investment to finance more affordable housing, expressing frustration at the response and calling for thousands more homes to be built each year. Thank you, Alex, for visiting and recognising why this service matters. Look out for parts 2 and 3. πŸ’¬ What stood out to you most in this first part of our conversation? πŸ›οΈ Tonight, Chris shares the news we always hope to bring: no sleeping pods outside our night shelter. @Bell45 He thanks @GlasgowCC City Council for the significant improvement our volunteers have noticed in communication and cooperation. With people receiving emergency accommodation and earlier applications being followed up, our team has seen the difference that working together can make. 🀝 We speak up when people struggle to get help, and we are equally pleased to recognise progress. Thank you to everyone involved in getting people indoors tonight. Let’s keep building on this cooperation so that nobody has to rely on a pod on the pavement. πŸ’™ What would help make this progress consistent every night? 🚨 3 PODS ON THE STREETS OF GLASGOW TONIGHT! 🚨 Chris from Homeless Project Scotland speaks out tonight. πŸ’” Three pods are three too many. One person sleeping on the street is one too many! πŸ‘ But credit where credit is due! Tonight, Glasgow’s Out of Hours Homelessness Service helped accommodate 3 people, and we want to acknowledge that positive step. We have always said that when things improve, we will recognise it. Working together is how we make a difference. 🏠 But we urgently need a BIGGER BUILDING! Homeless Project Scotland needs more space so we can bring more vulnerable people indoors, provide more beds and offer the support people desperately need. 🀝 Let’s keep the conversation going, @GlasgowCC City Council! & @Bell45 We want to work together, find solutions and make sure nobody is left sleeping on our streets. This isn’t about blame. It’s about solutions, partnership and saving lives. ❀️ Three pods tonight. Our goal is ZERO. πŸ“ž National Homeless Helpline: 0800 999 2477 #HomelessProjectScotland #Glasgow #EndHomelessness #WorkingTogether #NobodyLeftBehind

🚨 URGENT CALL FOR CHANGE – GLASGOW’S OUT-OF-HOURS HOMELESSNESS SERVICE Chris has recorded a powerful video directly appealing to Councillor Ricky Bell, Leader of @GlasgowCC City Council, to urgently intervene and commission a complete overhaul of Glasgow’s homelessness Out-of-Hours service. At Homeless Project Scotland, we believe the current system is not fit for purpose. We continue to witness situations night after night where vulnerable people struggle to access the emergency accommodation and support they desperately need. This cannot continue. People experiencing homelessness deserve dignity, compassion and access to the help they are entitled to. We are calling for an urgent, independent operational review, greater accountability, improved communication with frontline organisations and meaningful changes to how vulnerable people are supported overnight. We want to work constructively with Glasgow City Council and the HSCP to deliver lasting improvements. Councillor @Bell45 please listen to the concerns being raised from the frontline. The time for meaningful change is now. 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Nobody should be left without help when they need it most. #HomelessProjectScotland #Glasgow #Homelessness #TimeForChange #RickyBell

There are 424 women staying in hotels, 78 families with children, and many more are told "no accommodation available" by the council. Of course more temporary flats are needed but so are specialist facilities providing accommodation and wrap-around care. glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/2667…

βœ‰οΈ In this video, our CEO and founder, Colin McInnes, revisits his invitation to the First Minister: visit Homeless Project Scotland, meet our team and hear directly from the people who need our support. Colin explains that his requests have repeatedly received replies citing diary commitments. His invitation remains open, with the First Minister welcome to choose a suitable day and time. He also speaks about his determination to continue advocating for people experiencing homelessness despite what he describes as bullying, threats and pressure from planning application. 🀝 Our focus remains on the people coming through our doors. Their experiences deserve to be heard, and we hope the First Minister will make time to see this work firsthand. πŸ’¬ If the First Minister visited, what would you want him to hear from our community? πŸ“ž In this morning’s video, Chris describes another difficult night trying to secure accommodation through Glasgow City Council’s out-of-hours emergency service, with the shelter full and sleeping pods outside. He raises concerns about how guests and volunteers were spoken to, particularly when someone was distressed or English was not their first language. Chris recounts being told to move away while helping a guest on speakerphone, with the guest then asked for a mobile number to continue the conversation directly. He questions why volunteers’ assistance was being excluded when people needed help explaining their circumstances. 🀝 Our volunteers give their time freely to support people through these conversations. We ask @GlasgowCC City Council to treat guests respectfully, recognise their communication needs and work constructively with those they turn to for support. Asking for emergency accommodation can already be overwhelming. The response should help people feel heard and understand what happens next. πŸ’¬ What would make these conversations more accessible for someone who is distressed or facing a language barrier? We welcome your suggestions below.

⏱️At 3:28 this morning, Chris reports that our volunteers are still making calls for people needing accommodation. The shelter is full, and sleeping pods are outside during the storm. πŸ“ž Our team contacted @GlasgowCC Glasgow City Council’s out-of-hours emergency service for every person seeking our support, with waits exceeding 30 minutes just to speak to someone. Chris describes responses he found dismissive and difficulties helping guests communicate their needs, including those facing language barriers. People come to our volunteers for support, and we ask that their wish for assistance is respected. He also reports that people were offered taxis to police stations or hospitals when accommodation was unavailable. We ask Glasgow City Council to explain these responses and ensure that requests for shelter lead to appropriate accommodation. Our volunteers continue working through the night, but people waiting for help need the chance to rest indoors. βœ‰οΈ Please consider writing to your local councillors to raise these concerns and ask what action will follow. If you needed help during a storm, what would you expect from an emergency homelessness service? Share your views in the comments.

❀️ HUMANITY AT ITS FINEST! ❀️ A massive THANK YOU to Gils Motor Factors and Matador Tyres UK πŸ™ŒπŸš When our Homeless Project Scotland van needed a new tyre, the amazing team at Gills went above and beyond. They opened their garage after hours and fitted a brand-new Matador tyre completely FREE, getting our van back on the road so we could continue helping people experiencing homelessness. ❀️ No fuss, no hesitation just genuine kindness and community spirit. πŸŒͺ️ Last Night, Sebastian asks who is protecting people experiencing homelessness as preparations are made for the storm. He reports that 10 people are sleeping outside our shelter, despite repeated calls to Glasgow City Councils out-of-hours emergency service throughout the night. Our team tried to secure accommodation before conditions worsened, but nobody was accommodated through those calls. πŸ“ž As Sebastian highlights The Scottish Government’s emergency meetings about the weather, he questions how those left without shelter are being included in the response. People sleeping outside need somewhere safe to go. We urgently ask Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government to ensure that storm preparations include practical help for those exposed on our streets. β›Ί A sleeping pod should never be someone’s only protection during a storm. What arrangements should be in place for people with nowhere indoors to go during severe weather? Please share your views below.

🌧️ Tonight, Colin stands alongside our night shelter team in pouring rain and strong winds, describing efforts to secure accommodation during what he reports is an amber weather warning with a risk to life. Of 45 people needing help, Colin says @GlasgowCC City Council accommodated just one, while @WDCouncil West Dunbartonshire Council accommodated none. πŸ“ž He challenges the response our team received about accommodation not being provided overnight and calls on both authorities to address the situation urgently. When severe weather puts people at risk, requests for somewhere indoors to stay need an effective response, whatever the hour. Our volunteers have spent the night seeking help, and we ask Glasgow City Council and West Dunbartonshire Council to work with us to get people safely accommodated. πŸ’¬ What response would you expect when a shelter asks for emergency accommodation during dangerous weather? Let us know in the comments.

πŸ‘Ÿ These shoes belong to someone with no home to return to. Tonight, they hang from our shelter’s door handle, surrounded by rain-soaked sleeping pods. Everyone deserves somewhere safe to take off their shoes and rest. πŸ’™ What does this photograph say to you? Tell us in the comments.

πŸšͺ In this video, our CEO and founder, @HP_ScotlandCEO Colin McInnes, explains why keeping @hp_scotland Homeless Project Scotland’s night shelter available matters to people who have nowhere else to sleep. He shares his frustration with the planning barriers facing the shelter while people continue to come through our doors needing urgent help. βš–οΈ Colin raises a direct question: how can planning law be enforced while people’s need for accommodation remains unresolved? We ask @GlasgowCC City Council and the @scotgov The Scottish Government to work with us towards a solution that protects access to shelter and helps people move into appropriate accommodation. The people relying on this service need to know where they can turn. πŸ’¬ What should decision makers have in place for those who depend on the shelter before considering its closure? Please share your views in the comments.

πŸ›οΈ In this video, our CEO and founder, Colin McInnes, thanks Councillor @Bell45 following a productive meeting at Glasgow City Chambers with the @hp_scotland Homeless Project Scotland team. Colin shares how much it meant to feel heard and to bring the voices of people experiencing homelessness directly to the leadership of Glasgow City Council. πŸ”‘ During the meeting, Councillor Bell committed to asking officers to explore what properties Glasgow City Council may have available. Colin also welcomes his commitment that people should not have to sleep rough on our city’s streets. These discussions offer encouragement, and we look forward to working together to turn that commitment into practical support for people who need somewhere to stay. Thank you, Councillor Bell, for listening to our team and the people we represent. πŸ’™ What would you most like to see come from this dialogue? Please share your hopes in the comments.
