The Glasgow City Region Councils are developing a devolution deal proposal to put to both Governments, Paul. We do not support a metro mayor. Sorry to disappoint you... – at Kilmacolm, Scotland
A council leader is not equivalent to a metro mayor. A metro mayor is a directly elected leader of an entire city region, with more extensive executive power and a democratic mandate from across that region. The SNP should support equivalent status and power for Greater Glasgow.

We’ve submitted a motion on the Labour Government’s budget. After months of empty promises of ‘growth in every postcode’, Andy Burnham has failed at the first hurdle to put his money where this mouth is. Scotland needs more than warm words from Westminster politicians.

💙 A POSITIVE STEP FORWARD FOR HOMELESSNESS IN GLASGOW! A sincere thank you to Councillor @Bell45, Leader of @GlasgowCC City Council for taking the time to meet with us and listen to our concerns. We came away feeling much more positive and encouraged by his apparent commitment to working with Homeless Project Scotland to tackle homelessness across our city. We want to work together, find solutions and make a real difference to people’s lives. We are hopeful this marks the beginning of positive change for Glasgow’s homeless community. Thank you, Councilor Bell for listening. Actions will now speak louder than words. We will keep everyone updated as discussions progress. 💙 #HomelessProjectScotland #Glasgow #EndingHomelessness

Some criticism of this being beneath a PM totally misses the fact that this isn’t just an everyday annoyance, the behaviour of enforcement companies is seen as emblematic of a rigged/exploitative system and is entirely the sort of cause of misery people want a govt to tackle.
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced changes to car parking fines - Drivers will have a 5-minute grace period to decide whether to park and 10 minutes to leave after a parking session ends - A £20 maximum charge on appeal for minor mistakes, such as entering the wrong number plate or not displaying a permit - Charges will also be cancelled on appeal for breakdowns, medical emergencies or broken ticket machines - The £100 cap on charges will remain - The rules will come into force as soon as possible and operators that break them will lose access to DVLA data

Interesting to see the SNP enthusiastically embrace Burnham's agenda of regional government. Ricky Bell very positive on the potential to transform Scotland. Bell's an interesting guy with a can-do attitude. Already feels like a new broom in Glasgow.

Just to put this in context Scotgov already agreed last year to devolve further powers to Glasgow City Region. Their door is open. Would be good if UK gov could bring itself to talk to Glasgow direct at some point. They really like talking about us. To us, not so much.
"My message to John is simple, I want to push economic power out into the regions of Scotland, do you?" Andy Burnham challenges Scotland's First Minister John Swinney to "push power" out from Westminster and Holyrood "into the hands of local people" bbc.in/4yl7lNX

I am pleased that agreement has been reached on equal pay between the unions and Glasgow City Council. Thanks to DFM @JennyGilruthMSP for her intensive work and to all parties involved for their constructive engagement in this process.

Reaching this point has only been possible because of the hard work and commitment shown by both the unions and the Council. The job is not finished, and we remain focused on providing the assurances our workforce rightly expects.
