An 'Energy Wealth Fund' sounds like a good thing, so this should be a welcome announcement. But is it? Jack Middleton writes ✍️

Why I support Rosebank being given the green light as an SNP MSP trib.al/KxGBWrC
While Trump opened the door to Russian oil, we must support European energy security, invest revenues in renewables, reduce oil & gas reliance, & protect workers.
Judge Rosebank on the evidence & confront the real consequences of not producing resources we’ll continue consuming.

Labour has taken advantage of Scotland’s resources for decades.
In the 1970s, Labour considered using the discovery of North Sea oil to establish a national wealth fund.
Instead, the benefits of oil to Scotland’s economy were downplayed in an attempt to suppress the nationalist movement.
Ultimately, Labour failed to establish a national wealth fund, while Thatcher’s privatisation meant oil revenues flowed straight into Westminster’s pocket.
John Healey has now admitted that a wealth fund established then would be worth over £1 trillion today.
We’ve had enough of Labour taking advantage of Scotland’s resources.
Every single penny of revenue from Jackdaw must go into a Future Wealth Fund for Scotland.
It’s Scotland’s energy, beneath Scotland’s waters, and Scotland’s industry expertise that make Jackdaw possible.
I wonder why Westminster is so scared of Scotland becoming independent?

😬 Laughable, but the type of gaffe we've come to expect from the BBC.
I don't think we'd see London slapped wrongly on the map next to Cornwall ...
😤😡 Mr Hoyle says "I'm sorry you think Aberdeen is more important than the MPs that are elected."
Aberdeen will always be more important than any politician!
I've asked the Westminster speaker to urgent withdraw and apologise for his comments.

In my conversations with the @10DowningStreet and the Chancellor, I have been very clear that whilst we of course support net zero, we cannot have a jobless transition, abandon our energy security or offshore our carbon responsibilities. That is why we have argued for this decision on Jackdaw.
This gives us a bit more time to create and fund a concrete plan for commensurate jobs for workers currently working in the North Sea. Now we urgently need to use that and invest in industries like wind turbine manufacture and refining green jet fuel. We simply cannot let go of one rope until we have hold of another.
Energy Secretary @Miatsf has agreed that the regulator can grant consent for gas to be produced at the licensed Jackdaw field.

While we rely on oil and gas, it's sensible to prioritise domestic resources over foreign imports, particularly where those imports have a higher carbon footprint.
Approving Jackdaw is the right decision, but fundamental questions remain unanswered. 🧵
Westminster’s betrayal of Grangemouth is evidence of the UK Government abandoning Scottish workers in favour of English industry before.
Labour must provide assurances today that it won’t happen with the North East of Scotland.
