4 generations of readers (1568-1667) added dates of births and deaths in this 15C book of hours. 'In 1612 my son Jean Baptiste was born.' 'In 1614 my son Jean Baptiste died.' Out of the 10 newborns, 7 died young. Transcribing these notes by 3 fathers and 1 mother was rough.😢
Can anyone help interpret this owner's note in a 15c Book of Hours, pls? He writes that in 1599 his 10y old son 'fut tué en tiran de l'ung crochet en la chambre du g(ed?) des quennonniers'. How did the boy die? Pulling a hook (?) in the (?) chamber of the cannon makers/soldiers?
