This has been a critical realization over the past few years in trying to understand global monetary history and its effect on culture and ministry.
The mid 50’s represented the peak of American dollar dominance post Bretton Woods, making possible and normalizing a level of purchasing power that is the extreme outlier historically.
The idea of a single male breadwinner for a household is neither what we see in the bible nor almost all of history - its mainly a temporary fantasy created by the conditions of the mid 1900s, a blip on the radar of economic and social realities.
It was a temporary option for a few generations given a brief window of very specific conditions the US and a few other nations enjoyed and experienced.
Outside that, for no one and no where in history was it common.
Because its generally not sustainable - having one person bear all the economic burdens of a large family is an option for very few. In our day, it's often higher end white collar folks still extolling this model - a group by and large whose size is rapidly shrinking.
But having a household where every member, from greatest to least contributes, that is something available to everyone everywhere in everytime.
You can continue to kick against the goads, or you can learn and lean into what the Bible actually teaches - multigenerational productive households. What some have called "the corporate family."
There’s rarely been as much opportunity for such a model as there is again today.
These can look and be structured hundreds of different ways.
It's not a one size fits all, it's a flexible model built to work through the ups and downs of technology and history.
These are a mix of internal and external economy.
They make resilient families and households. A mix of economic and family unity and diversity.
I’m just here for the Star Wars analysis, and this is one of the best so far.
Greetings young Sith, let’s have a chat.
Your essay is insightful and, at its core, substantially correct. I accept your reading of the Boomer generation and the mythology of Star Wars. The aesthetics, the simplistic moral universe, the endless recasting of every political disagreement into a struggle between liberators and Nazis, the treatment of Alderaan as a rubber stamp reading VILLAIN, the discovery that the hippies eventually became the Jedi Council, and the extraordinary hypocrisy of a generation that overthrew its fathers and now regards succession as an existential threat.
All of it. The frame is good. It is thick enough to be genuinely useful, even as it exposes the remarkable thinness, and frankly the stupidity, of the worldview it describes.
But something important is missing.
An entire generation, in fact.
And the absence of Generation X from your account reveals a larger story. One that makes sense of the Boomer mythology, explains why it took the form that it did, and introduces a rather serious problem with your proposed solution.

Christian leaders—especially in the Reformed and Puritan tradition—have long treated physical health and fitness as necessary stewardship, a means of keeping the body fit to serve God.
Edwards: “When the body enjoys the perfections of health and strength… it fits one for the contemplation of more exalted and spiritual excellencies and harmonies, as music does.” (Miscellanies, No. 95, “Happiness of Heaven”)
Baxter: “It is our duty to use so much exercise as is necessary for the preservation of our health, so far as our work requireth; otherwise, we should, for one day’s work, lose the opportunity of many.” (Select Works)
Swinnock: “It is thy duty to keep thy body in the best plight and health, vigour and liveliness that thou canst for thy souls sake.” (The Christian Man’s Calling)
Calvin: “Every person should attend to his own health, not for the sake of prolonging life, but that, as long as he lives, he may serve God, and be of use to his neighbors.” (on 1 Tim 5:23)
Spurgeon: “A day’s breathing of fresh air upon the hills, or a few hours’ ramble in the beech woods… would sweep the cobwebs out of the brain of scores of our toiling ministers who are now but half alive. A mouthful of sea air, or a stiff walk in the wind’s face, would not give grace to the soul, but it would yield oxygen to the body, which is next best.” (Lectures to My Students)
Henry: “It is the will of God that people should take all due care of their bodies… so that they may be most fit and helpful to us in the service of God.” (on 1 Tim 5:23)
The consistent witness is that a sound body is not an end in itself, but a duty of stewardship so we remain fit for the work God has given us.
You guys know Apple is just rage-baiting you right? Last year they made that horrible “let’s crush everything of value that you love and put it into an iPad” ad and it went viral, because everyone hated it. Now they did it again by depicting the most anxiety-inducing dysfunctional family scene you can imagine and selling the false promise that another screen added to your house will finally make things work. They know it’s a terrible ad, and they’re hoping you’ll share it to tell everyone.

Want to understand why young men today are demoralized?
Read this essay:
This is a hell of an essay. I ended up talking today for about 90 minutes to its author, for more details. Very, very bleak picture he paints, talking about most of the young men like him he knows. He's working 70-hour weeks to make ends meet.

Bitcoin fixes this.
The immorality of unfettered debt expansion enabled by money printing and increased taxation via a wholly captured and corrupt political class is the most important fundamental driver of economic inequality and stress in the world and it is understood by very few.
The people who are most negatively affected by these forces have been psyop’d into believing that the solution to these problems is MORE government spending and taxation.
The government is not your friend. It is a material impediment to human flourishing and it derives most of its power from money printing and debt expansion enabled by that money printing.
Bitcoin has effectively separated money from the state and central banking, making it one of the most important technologies ever invented and a tool that enables human flourishing the likes of which people living today cannot even fathom.
Fix the money, fix the world.
Western governments have engineered the greatest anti-natal program in human history, and most people are completely unaware of the causes or consequences.
Birth rates across Europe, East Asia, and North America have collapsed below replacement levels. Governments systematically destroyed the economic foundations that make family formation possible.
You cannot afford children when the state inflates away your purchasing power, taxes your income at confiscatory rates, then forces you to fund the retirements of previous generations through Social Security ponzi schemes. A middle-class American couple faces effective marginal tax rates exceeding 50% when you include federal income tax, state tax, payroll taxes, property taxes, and sales taxes. Meanwhile, monetary debasement ensures that housing costs consume 40% of median income versus 15% in 1970.
The regulatory state makes every aspect of child-rearing exponentially more expensive. Occupational licensing cartels inflate childcare costs. Zoning laws prevent affordable family housing. Department of Education mandates drive up school costs while destroying quality. FDA approval processes make basic medicines cost 10x their market price. Each regulation serves entrenched interests while pricing out young families.
Economic policy shapes demographics. When governments prioritize immediate consumption over capital formation, present voters over future families, and welfare recipients over productive workers, birth rate collapse becomes inevitable. The state subsidizes the childless while penalizing parents through the tax code and monetary policy.
Politicians promise family tax credits and paid leave programs to solve the crisis they created. They offer you breadcrumbs from your own stolen wealth while maintaining the very policies that make children unaffordable. The solution requires abolishing the systems that broke family formation, not expanding them.

It’s all true.
— Proud dad of 8 kids
My boss's boss is like 42, never married, no kids. Earns $275-300K per year. Goes on a minimum of two international vacations a year w/ his girlfriend. 10+ days, all out.
Eats the best food, stays in top notch accomodations. Excursions, tours, nicest beaches, etc.
Great guy, I'm happy for him.
But what I've realized is that without kids, you end up chasing a lifestyle that has to continually be topped in order for you to be satisfied and find happiness.
What he and others like him don't understand is that when you have children, seeing THEM experience life's most basic things and watching their eyes light up at all the "firsts", brings greater pleasure and joy than any vacation or travel experience ever could.
Seeing THEM try blueberries for the first time is greater than dining at the best 5 star restaurant in Europe.
Seeing THEM learn how to walk is greater than walking the Great Wall of China or strolling along the most picturesque beach.
Watching THEM giggle uncontrollably at "peek-a-boo" tops any A-list comedian act.
Seeing THEIR excitement when building a fort out of cardboard boxes and making a door big enough for daddy is superior to staying at 5-star resorts.
Flying kites with THEM far outweighs excursions like parasailing or helicopter rides.
Seeing THEM perform a recital on stage for the first time is more rewarding than watching a Broadway show or top notch symphony orchestra.
-----------------
When you have children, all of a sudden you realize that life's greatest joys are not in the pursuit of things or pleasure or travel, but rather in the LOVE and bond you share with your very own image bearers.
Seeing the beauty and magnificence and wonder of life all over again for the first time through THEIR eyes and expressions gives you something the world simply cannot offer, nor even come close.

At Bitcoin Beach, we’ve seen firsthand how the global fiat system relies on "unjust weights and measures."
The very thing Scripture warns us against!
But we have also seen what happens when we finally embrace a tool designed for truth...
In our latest episode, I sit down with @jordanbush and @iAhsh to explore why we believe Biblical stewardship in the modern age now requires Bitcoin.
We do something uncommon in this conversation: we explore Bitcoin through the lens of morality, ethics, and spirituality. From that angle, we tackle why central banking has become a false idol and how bankers "playing God" is actively stifling human flourishing.
We share real stories of impact from our work here in El Salvador and across Kenya and India. It is becoming clear that for the Church to thrive and for missions to remain sovereign, we must look toward the future of sound money.
It’s time to move from the world of deceptive fiat into the world of honest, God-given, and perfect math.
No matter where on the spirituality spectrum you land, this thought-provoking conversation will challenge your perspective on what money truly represents and the moral cost of the system we’ve left behind.
