Filmic Pro was the go-to video camera app for a decade – until a sale to Bending Spoons and a shift to subscriptions changed everything.
This is the story of how it went from industry leader to afterthought almost overnight.👇🏻

Fellow photo nerds, I’ve partnered with dear friends @rianjohnson and Eric Cameron to make a bespoke iPhone still camera app: Chromagraph Camera. It’s the camera we wanted for ourselves and we’re making it available for purchase on the App Store. apps.apple.com/app/apple-sto…
Haven’t tried this yet, but if it’s from Steve Yedlin it’s gonna be great…👇🏻
So I recently badgered my cinematographer @steveyedlin into making my ideal iPhone still camera app. It shoots RAW, bypasses the iPhone's look processing and instead uses the same image processing we use on our movies. apps.apple.com/app/apple-sto…
This new cage has several nice features, including one that makes it upgradable…

Yes, been thinking the same thing! A lot of these updates we wouldn’t even know about without people testing it and finding out on their own.

More whiplash from Blackmagic camera app… But this time better! They added internal raw recording back into the app with the latest 3.5.3. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
To recap: 3.5.1 they had it. 3.5.2 they removed it. And now added it back with 3.5.3. Who knows what 3.5.4 has in store. Lol.
They now say, “external storage is recommended“ I guess as a CYA.
Go update your app and give it a try on an iPhone 18 Pro or 17 Pro.
Is there a clear winner?👇🏻

Well, I figured it would happen and it did. I lost my Luna Ultra wide-angle adapter.
They have a nice little magnetic spot for it in the hard case, but it can fall out, which it did this weekend - I didn’t realize it until now.
Fortunately it’s not super expensive to replace, but still kinda irritating.
In case you lost one too, here is a replacement… 😆

The most consistent over the years in my testing and the best performer has been Beastgrip. The main negative with them is their lens line doesn’t offer as many options as other brands (and they really require a cage to use with a 37 mm mount).
Second would be ReeFlex, and third would probably be a tie between Sandmarc & Moment. However, Moment has been somewhat inconsistent the last few years.
And then there’s Shiftcam and Freewell, too. Both of those have had some very good glass, but then they’ve also been inconsistent. Though the most recent releases from Shiftcam (V.Series and X.Series) have maybe been the best I’ve used right now. And I love the V.series form factor (the main negative, though, is it’s a proprietary S lens mount).
But looking at it from a big picture and consistency over the years, Beastgrip has been the best for me.
Hey @iFilmmakers I know you have done a huge amount of testing on, seemingly, every conversion iPhone lenses, ever made. Well, maybe not ever-made but you know what I'm talking about. You have done way more technical testing than most. If you had to pick a single lens-maker, for getting your personal, firsthand vote, for "BEST" iPhone glass, who would it be? Additionally, who, in your humble opion, would get second and third place?

MoviePro now offering ProRes RAW internal recording with the new PVS…
Interesting. Haven’t noticed this with my 18 Pro Max (black), however, I do use a case.
Blackmagic has changed their app multiple times in the last few weeks, which TBH has been frustrating, but they have added some nice new features…
