Days before the Golani Brigade re-deployed to southern Gaza, a video showed one of the commanders addressing his troops. “Everyone we encounter is an enemy,” he said. “If a figure is identified, we open fire, eliminate and move forward. Don’t get confused.”
IDF soldiers said they shot and killed 14 Palestinian emergency workers from a distance, mistaking them for militants. Our investigation finds:
- Shooters were close enough to identify the crews: 40m at the start; around 12m within minutes.
- IDF said they shot them because they were driving "suspiciously"; this appears to mean the men made a u-turn, then drove in convoy in order to protect themselves.
- Soldiers said they were on edge after firing on a Hamas police vehicle that morning; dispatcher records and interviews indicate that vehicle in fact was a clearly marked ambulance, sent to save lives.
- At least two of the paramedics were still alive as IDF soldiers advanced through the area, according to an eyewitness.

Across northern #Gaza, there is no way of telling where the destruction starts or ends.
No matter from what direction you enter #Gaza City, homes, hospitals, schools, health clinics, mosques, apartments, restaurants - all completely flattened.
An entire society now a graveyard.
“I don’t want to live in a tent,” said Khader. “The people of Gaza’s resilience will thwart any displacement plan.”
