This is great advice. I found it really hard to cut through this noise when choosing which start up I wanted to work at.

How “good” a startup is business-wise and how much you read about them in the media are usually unrelated. Most people assume they are related: they over-value startups spending a lot of time trying to get media coverage, and might pass on very good companies just building.
For anyone interviewing at the moment this is a thread full of great advice.
I'm giving a tech talk next week on 5 ways to improve your company's technical interview, but here are 5 tips for candidates: 1. Admit what you don't know It's better to say "I'm not sure. If I had to guess..." or "I don't have experience with X" than BS your way through it.

What many sw engineers don't realize: The majority of jobs do not hire you to write the highest quality code or produce the cleanest architecture. They hire you to solve their business problems very efficiently. Sometimes this means high-quality code. Sometimes not at all.

How technical do you need to be to be an Engineering Manager? Most people will tell you VERY. I think not. You can be an avg engineer + a great EM. In fact, if you’re too technical of a manager it could hurt you. Speaking as a software engineer turned manager, here’s why:

Fuck everyone standing in the way of progress at YCC. All the PR machine rubs out pretty quickly once progress is actually suggested. Yet more proof why ir is on white men to come to the crease and deliver change. We must do better. theguardian.com/sport/2022/f…
Last day of being a 20-something. Feels weird, but man was the last decade fun.

These are great words of advice. As managers we should be ensuring the environments our engineers work in allow for this to happen organically.
"As a software engineer, how can I become more involved in leading projects, even if I am not a tech lead, nor am I assigned leadership duties?" Here are approaches I observed to work well - especially at companies where engineers have autonomy and managers empower them.

#SuperLeague is just a microcosm of how companies on a whole have used the pandemic to take advantage of working class people. If it's not Liverpool or Arsenal, it's British Gas screwing over their *key workers*. Billionaires gonna Billionaire.
Having been preached too for 6 months by @mattlawdev, I finally got to build some production code with the comp API, and the boy didn't lie. Makes building scalable applications a breeze.
