When Mom sees the doctor, you can't always be in the room.
BastCare asks first, records the visit, and turns it into plain words. Tap any point to see what was actually said. Free to download on iPhone 💞

When my sister got sick, I was Chief Data Officer for IBM's services division. I made about 10x what the average caregiver makes. Caring for her was the hardest job I've ever had.
Same person. Same brain. Different title.
Let's change the title, and pay for the work.
Unpaid care in the US is worth about $1.5 trillion a year, and GDP counts none of it.

Happy National Family Caregivers Month. We rebuilt bast.ai and launched our evidence library: 43 studies on what caregivers do for the people we love, and on AI that shows its work. We kept the studies that cut against us. bast.ai/evidence
November is National Family Caregivers Month. If you drive Mom or Dad to the doctor, you are the second patient in that room. BastCare writes down what the doctor said in plain words, so you can look at your person, not your notes.

Zoom filtered out my sister's leaf blower, so I pitched windows that cancel leaf blowers. She said, "That's scope creep." Fair. Then I thought: AI windows would need lineage and provenance, so you know the tree outside is real. 🍂 If someone invents the noise cancelling ones, can you please let me know and maybe give me some panes for free 🥰
My mom said, "I don't want to take this many pills." Her visit summaries never had her voice.
So I built BastCare around the patient's concerns. Thanks @RegulatingAI and Sanjay Puri for having me on FlashCast.

Today is International Day of Care and Support.
There are two patients in every exam room. The caregiver is the second one.

Your mom reads Korean best. Her doctor speaks English. BastCare records the visit and gives her a plain-words summary in her language, and the whole family can follow along.

Kansas paid for a pilot to help 121 people who qualify for a nursing home stay home. Home sensors flagged changes so caregivers could check in. Nursing home days fell 54%. Depression scores fell 45%. The numbers are preliminary and there was no control group. Still worth watching. zemplee.com/en-us/nursing-ho…
You don't build ontologies. You excavate the ones that were always there, hiding in your assumptions.
Picture being in handcuffs for something you didn't do. The first thing you'd want is a record of what really happened.
AI works the same way. When a system shows its work, that record protects the people using it, and not only the people who built it.
That's how we build at Bast AI 💞
Caregiver tip: after a doctor visit, ask Mom or Dad to tell you what the doctor said in their own words. If it doesn't match what you heard, you just found your next question!
With everyone's ok, BastCare records the visit and turns it into plain words you can both read.
Free to download on iPhone 💞
My friend sent me this with "I rest my case" 😂
A lot of AI gets sold the same way: trust us, it's there.
At Bast AI we show our work. Every answer traces back to its source, so you can check it yourself 💞
Caregivers: before Mom's next doctor visit, write down your top 3 questions. Ask them first. Then ask if you can record the answers.
BastCare turns the recording into plain words you can read again later, or share with your brother who couldn't make it. Free on iPhone.
Tonight in Aurora I'm on a panel about private innovation for public health, hosted by the Colorado School of Public Health and CU Denver Business School.
My point: you don't need the most data. You need the right data, with the work shown. 5:30 PM MT.

Thursday I'm on a panel at the Colorado School of Public Health and CU Denver Business School on what private innovation can do for public health.
My take from building @bast_ai: start with the person and show your work. Oct 22, 5:30 PM, Aurora.

In a Nature Medicine study, AI models alone got it right about 95% of the time. People using those same models: under 35%.
Adding a human didn't make it safer. Showing the work might. I wrote about why (and recorded it in my own voice):
