GRIEF DOES NOT EXPIRE AT 18 Losing a parent or a child does not suddenly become less devastating because somebody has reached their eighteenth birthday. The current scheme does make age distinctions in some awards. For example, children under 18 when an infected parent died are automatically eligible for core Financial Loss compensation, while some people aged 18 or over may need to establish financial dependency through the supplementary route. The Government has also confirmed that it considered, but did not adopt, a change sought by some community members concerning parents whose children died aged 18 or over. That leaves an important question for policymakers: Does the scheme properly recognise the reality of bereavement across different ages and family circumstances? Because loss is loss. Grief is grief. @andyburnham #InfectedBlood #OneVoice #Bereavement #Fairness

2. COMPENSATION SHOULD NOT CREATE MORE TRAUMA Compensation was meant to recognise harm — not add another layer of anxiety, uncertainty and exhaustion for families already carrying decades of it. Yet people repeatedly describe waiting, worrying, checking emails, trying to understand the process and wondering what happens next. A scheme dealing with people who have already experienced enormous harm has to understand the human impact of how it communicates and operates. Speed matters. Clarity matters. Consistency matters. Compassion matters. The process should never become another part of the damage. #InfectedBlood #OneVoice #Compensation #Trauma #IBCA @IBCA_UK @andyburnham @IanByrneMP @IanLaveryMP @CliveEfford @louisehaigh

1. MISSING RECORDS SHOULD NOT ERASE THE TRUTH Many families are trying to prove events that happened decades ago, in a system where records may now be incomplete or missing. The current scheme itself recognises a balance-of-probabilities approach in some eligibility decisions, including cases where infection occurred after screening was introduced. So the question is simple: How do we make sure missing paperwork does not become a barrier to recognising what happened? A destroyed file does not mean the treatment never happened. A missing test does not erase a person’s history. And families should not be expected to produce evidence that no longer exists. Absence of paperwork is not absence of harm. #InfectedBlood #OneVoice #MissingRecords #Justice @IBCA_UK @andyburnham @downingstreet @No10North @UKHouseofLords

TRANSPARENCY SHOULD NOT BE THIS HARD TO ASK FOR. People affected by the infected blood scandal should not have to piece the process together through phone calls, screenshots, rumours and community conversations. They should not be left comparing ages, categories, circumstances and invite dates just to try to work out whether the system is being applied fairly. This is exactly why trust is being damaged. When answers are unclear, anxiety grows. When explanations do not match lived experience, confidence falls. When people are left guessing, the harm does not stop — it deepens. The community is not asking for special treatment. It is asking for clarity, consistency and honesty. So we ask again: @IBCA_UK @SteJitsu Why are people still being left to work this out for themselves? #InfectedBlood #OneVoice #Transparency #Justice #IBCA

DEATH CANNOT BE TREATED AS A FOOTNOTE. For families of people who died following infected blood, compensation is about more than numbers. It is about recognition. Recognition that somebody was here. Recognition that their life was changed. Recognition that their family lost them. Recognition that death itself matters. Families should not have to keep explaining why an injury award and recognition of a death are not the same thing. We will keep raising this question: Where is the proper recognition for those who did not survive? Their names matter. Their lives matter. Their deaths matter. And we will keep saying it until that is properly addressed. @andyburnham @Number10press @No10North @HoCcommitteesUK @UKHouseofLords @sharrond62 @unheardvoicecb #InfectedBlood #OneVoice #DeathRecognition #Justice

I may be on holiday today — but I am still here, still pressing the issues being left unanswered. The government may get to switch off. IBCA may get to step away from the emails, the questions and the damage being done. We do not. Our trauma does not get left on the runway. We carry it everywhere we go. Into our homes. Into our work. Into our sleep. Into every day we are still waiting for answers. And for many, this process has not eased that trauma — it has made it worse. So while I may be away, I am not silent. And I am not stepping back from the truth. Will you sit back and watch — or will you stand with us and keep pressing for answers? @andyburnham did you enjoy new York? could you maybe ask ibca why aren't estates paid yet why are young people receive priority over the elderly still waiting #InfectedBlood #OneVoice #Trauma #Justice #Transparency

WHY DO YOU NOT THINK HEPATITIS B IS SERIOUS ENOUGH? Have you seen the evidence? Have you looked at the reality of chronic hepatitis B — the liver damage, cirrhosis, liver cancer risk, reactivation, co-infection concerns and the long-term impact on families? Too many affected people feel hepatitis B is still being treated like an afterthought, when the evidence shows it can be serious, life-changing and in some cases devastating. If decisions are being made about people’s lives, then hepatitis B must be understood properly, assessed fairly and treated with the seriousness it deserves. Hepatitis B is not a side issue. It is not a lesser issue. And it should not be dismissed. issues that need addressing @AngelaRayner @andyburnham @IanLaveryMP @CliveEfford #InfectedBlood #HepatitisB #OneVoice #Justice #Transparency

What is the one thing you wish decision-makers understood about the infected blood scandal? Not tariffs. Not forms. Not statistics. The human reality. Finish this sentence: “I wish they understood…” Your voice matters. #InfectedBlood #OneVoice

WE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL YOU ARRANGE A MEETING WITH THE COMMUNITY. People affected by the infected blood scandal deserve more than silence, distance and second-hand updates. If decisions are being made that affect lives, then the community must be heard directly. We are asking for a proper meeting — with honesty, transparency and real engagement. @andyburnham @downingstreet @UKHouseofLords @cabinetofficeuk @No10North Listen to the people living this. Listen to the families carrying this. Listen to the community demanding answers. We will not stop until that meeting happens. #InfectedBlood #OneVoice #Transparency #Justice #CommunityVoices

Why should infection type, age or where someone sits on a family tree determine the value of the harm they suffered? Children became carers. Partners watched loved ones deteriorate. Parents buried children. Siblings lost brothers and sisters. The scheme uses tariffs based on categories, age and circumstances. But grief doesn’t become cheaper at 18. Trauma doesn’t disappear because you’re a sibling. Years of caring don’t matter less because you were “affected” rather than infected. If the formula produces those outcomes, it deserves scrutiny. @andyburnham @SalBrinton @IanByrneMP @IanLaveryMP @CliveEfford @SkyNews @guardian @LiveLancs @UKNewsGroup @ReachPLC #InfectedBloodInquiry #AffectedFamilies #InfectedBloodScandal #OneVoice

Thousands of families affected by infected blood have spent decades explaining what happened to them. Now many are being asked to prove events from 30, 40 or 50 years ago. Records may disappear. People’s experiences do not. Their voices still matter. @andyburnham this community needs help where are you haven’t families suffered enough people are beyond themselves and feel so ignored it isn’t right #infectedblood #InfectedBloodScandal

Today’s read from The Unheard Voice looks at the documented history of hepatitis in UK dialysis units and asks an important question: do we really know who everyone affected was? If dialysis forms part of your family’s history, your records and experiences may matter. Read more: theunheardvoice.uk/stories/d… #InfectedBlood #HepatitisC #Dialysis #IBFSN #PatientVoices

A follower asked if we would share the Government’s response to the questions we raised on behalf of the infected blood community. Here it is. The letter addresses recognition of death, the 25% reduction on past care for deceased estates, carers, bereaved affected people, financial loss, Hepatitis B, psychological harm and complex cases. We believe people should be able to read the Government’s position for themselves and form their own view. Transparency matters. IBFSN has received a response from Baroness Twycross following the letter handed over on behalf of bereaved and affected families. As expected, much of the response points back to legislation, policy and existing recommendations. We are reviewing it carefully. Our position remains simple: explaining what the scheme currently says is not the same as explaining why it is fair. Families are still asking about death recognition, bereavement, care, Hepatitis B and the real impact of the scheme. We will keep asking. @SalBrinton @IanLaveryMP @CliveEfford @UKHouseofLords @HoCcommitteesUK @HouseofCommons #IBFSN #InfectedBloodScandal #InfectedBloodS
