One of Europe's most iconic trees tells a story of human migration. The sweet chestnut spread across much of Europe through centuries of cultivation, trade and settlement. From Galicia to the Balkans, what we now consider local heritage is also part of a shared European history. 🌰

Before russia invaded Ukraine, they spent years gearing up to tell the biggest lie ever told. They put billions into buying media & politicians in the west to gain influence. Then in 2022 they used it to tell the world what they were doing was justified. And they keep doing that to this day. I’ve been investigating this for 7 years, way before I even moved to Ukraine. My first report was with @ZarinaZabrisky in 2019 about this exact issue🫡. If anyone thinks I just showed up in Ukraine out of nowhere, that’s not the reality.

The Russian goal was to annex “Novorossiya” as a baseline, establish a puppet government in Kyiv even more under their boot than Yanukovych and then probably immediately wheel into Moldova. This is something we know from Russian statements and actions, as well as Lukashenko’s helpful press conference. They would have hoped that the rapid seizure of urban centers across the country, including the capital, as well as the encirclement and destruction of Ukraine’s most capable units in the Donbas, would have led to a complete capitulation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which they hoped would demobilize or be confined to their bases. With that surrender, they wanted to then install leaders and commanders loyal to to their puppet in Kyiv and watched by GRU/FSB minders to keep an eye on the west and exert control that way. While in control, they planned to carry out a widespread disappearance campaign targeting Ukrainian political, intellectual and cultural figures. This is something that they’ve conducted in the territories they occupy now.
Actually quite curious what a 100% successful Russian invasion of Ukraine would’ve looked like; IE would they have even bothered with occupying western Ukraine

One of historical linguistics' longest-standing mysteries is the relationship between Proto-Indo-European (PIE) and Proto-Uralic (PU). For over a century, linguists have debated why these two language families share striking similarities in vocabulary, including words for basic concepts such as "name," "seven," and certain kinship relations. Several explanations have been proposed: both families descending from a common ancestor (the Indo-Uralic hypothesis), prehistoric borrowing in either direction, or a combination of these processes. However, recent archaeological and archaeogenetic discoveries have provided a compelling new perspective. Around 3300 BCE, populations associated with the Afanasievo culture expanded eastward from the western Eurasian steppe into the Altai-Sayan region. Ancient DNA has confirmed their close genetic relationship with the Yamnaya horizon. Afanasievo is also widely considered the most plausible archaeological candidate for the ancestors of the Tocharian branch of Indo-European, suggesting that these migrants spoke an early Indo-European dialect ancestral or closely related to Proto-Tocharian. Meanwhile, recent archaeogenetic research has linked the prehistoric expansion of Uralic languages to Siberian populations and the Bronze Age Seima-Turbino networks, providing a plausible setting for contact between the two language families. In a 2022 study, linguist Rasmus G. Bjørn argued that several ancient lexical similarities could reflect Indo-European influence on early Uralic through the Afanasievo horizon, rather than common inheritance or borrowing in the opposite direction. This interpretation also offers a potential explanation for certain Indo-European-looking words found in other Inner Asian languages. Although the Indo-Uralic hypothesis remains debated, the convergence of linguistic, archaeological, and genetic evidence makes early Indo-European influence on Uralic an increasingly compelling possibility. Sources: Bjørn (2022), Indo-European loanwords and exchange in Bronze Age Central and East Asia. Zeng et al. (2025), Ancient DNA reveals the prehistory of the Uralic and Yeniseian peoples, Nature.

🚨 Shelby Wilder says she got pulled off air by NewsMax for telling the truth about Russia, which is falsely portraying itself as the rescuer of Ukrainian civilians in a city it destroyed and now occupies. Also, despite NewsMax being tasked by the White House to essentially represent US presence on the ground in Oleshky as an impartial observer, the White House has refused to guarantee the safety of NewsMax employees. The fact tha nobody trusts Russia is being covered up.
