I believe you will see a chatGPT level language model (on at least some metrics) on a mobile phone next year and GPT-4 level year after 🤓 These models are barely optimised, you would be very surprised 🫨 Folk may say this prediction is dumb but really what do they know 😊
Lived to see the day: GPT4-level LLM runs on my Mac (~9 tok / sec, Mac M2 max 32 gb + ollama.ai). nitter.cf/paulg/status/169519777…

LIMA, a 65B LLaMa fine-tuned only with supervised learning on 1000 curated examples, without any RLHF, demonstrates remarkably strong performance, generalizes well to unseen tasks not in training data. Comparable to GPT-4, Bard, DaVinc003 in human studies.reddit.com/r/MachineLearning…

The silent majority of AI.

But most AI people work in the quiet middle: We see huge benefits from people using AI in healthcare, education, …, and we see serious AI risks & harms but believe we can minimize them with careful engineering & regulation, just as happened with electricity, cars, planes, ….

Can't help but feel the AI hype is oriented in a non-optimal direction It's almost as if we had just discovered the FFT algorithm and instead of revolutionizing telecommunications, we are using it to build Tamagotchis P.S. I'm only half joking 😄

🚨Just In: Roblox is bringing generative AI to its gaming universe. They're building: -a tool to make “generative AI materials from a text prompt” -a tool for generative AI to complete code Tests for these tools will roll out in the coming weeks.

An open source LLM that lives in your corporate VPC probably good for this eh. Finally my email inbox will be sorted, another Carthaginian demon vanquished.
LLMs fine-tuned on your own emails is going to be an absolutely incredible product for execs. Imagine opening your inbox at the end of the day, and an AI has already drafted all the responses for you to review, based on your previous emails!

Good news: @StabilityAI is working on an open competitor to ChatGPT
This is a good take. We are working on open chatGPT (android vs iOS eh) and folk will build on both. Value creation will be decent but nothing compared to the crazy disruptive stuff that will come in the following years. Cost to buidl on this minimal, costs scale with revenue

“Trending on artstation” doesn’t actually work on #StableDiffusion2 as we stopped using the OpenAI CLIP as is used in DALLE2 and SD1 which over-represented on this and artists in general. Will be interesting to see how this whole area develops with some upcoming releases.

Perhaps the biggest lesson here.
It is interesting to see the amazing boost in popularity from the previous GPT-3 demo in OpenAI Playground to the more recent ChatGPT demo. The change from an open-ended text-continuation UI to a structured chat UI significantly increased the friendliness for a general audience.

.@ml_safety Can you comment on the source of the funding for these prizes? Your website lists you as a project of the Center for AI Safety. This was funded by FTX, right? If this is indeed your funding, the community really needs to hear your reasoning for why it's okay.
Have you ever heard of $100k in best paper awards in any academic conference? Even in ML with all the $$ flowing in the field, hence it's alignment with multinational corps & billionaire cults? The effective altruists are advertising that at NeurIPS, with Sam Bankman-Fried's $$.
