A Letter to the Australia I Love Australia, I am writing this because I love what your country represents: freedom, tolerance, dignity, and coexistence. And precisely because I love Australia, I believe Australians deserve to know what is being sold in their own communities. This may shock many Australians. At 2/165 Haldon Street, Lakemba, Sydney, NSW 2195, a bookstore advertises works by Sayyid Qutb, the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist who taught the bombing of children, the Hitler of the Middle East. Link to the book being sold in Australia: ( islamicbookstore.com.au/prod… ) The official 9/11 Commission Report states: “Bin Ladin also relies heavily on the Egyptian writer Sayyid Qutb.” Academic research has gone further, examining “Sayyid Qutb’s Influence on the 11 September Attacks” and describing Qutb as an intellectual godfather of modern radical Islamist movements, including al-Qaeda. A close university friend of Osama bin Laden, Mohammed Jamal Khalifa, later recalled that he and bin Laden read Qutb and said: “He was the one who most affected our generation.” So this is not an obscure historical writer whose ideas disappeared decades ago. Qutb's writings formed part of the ideological world that influenced bin Laden, al-Qaeda, and the generation from which 9/11 emerged. And today, these writings can still be purchased in Australia. Now look at what appears in those writings and in his book, which is now in Australian homes. I will help you, so if you get the book, I will tell you which pages and volumes to look at, as some will try to hide it. ■ On Jews Jews as enemies across generations — Vol. 2, pp. 800–801: Qutb describes Jews as enemies of truth “in all their generations and in all their times.” He further argues that they submit to the truth only when confronted by force. Jews as exceptionally hostile toward Muslims — Vol. 2, pp. 950–955: Qutb portrays Jews as exceptionally hostile toward Muslims and Islam. A continuous Jewish war against Islam — Vol. 2, pp. 950–955: Qutb presents Jewish hostility toward Islam as a continuous struggle extending across generations. ■ Marxism and Zionism — Vol. 2, pp. 950–955: Qutb associates Marxism with what he describes as “global Zionism.” Collective characterization of Jews — Vol. 2, pp. 950–955: Qutb describes Jews collectively as possessing an “evil, wretched disposition” and portrays their hearts as containing hatred toward Islam. ● On Women Male authority within the family — Vol. 2, pp. 649–652: Qutb argues that men are naturally better equipped for leadership and authority within the family, while women possess characteristics particularly suited to motherhood. Mother-led households — Vol. 2, p. 652: Qutb claims that children raised in households where paternal authority is absent or the mother’s personality dominates “will be abnormal” and may develop psychological, nervous, or behavioural abnormalities. ■ On Christianity The corruption of Christianity — Vol. 2: Qutb describes doctrines that entered Christianity as “deviant statements” and argues that the original monotheistic religion of Jesus was subsequently distorted. Christians as unbelievers — Vol. 2: Qutb explicitly describes Christians who hold these beliefs as kuffār (unbelievers). Christian councils and the corruption of the faith — Vol. 2, pp. 71–73: Qutb argues that church councils contributed to the corruption of the original faith and states that Christians who maintain these beliefs face exclusion from Paradise and punishment in Hell. ■■ Now stop thinking about politics for one moment. Think about the children. Imagine a Jewish mother discovering what a young person can read about her people. Imagine a Christian family discovering what is written about their faith. And imagine a young Muslim Australian searching for identity, faith, and belonging, only to encounter an ideology teaching him to divide the people around him into enemies and unbelievers.
