Domestic workers “[make] millions of lives possible.”
Yet in 2025, four in five domestic workers worldwide were informally employed, according to @ilo. They are twice as likely as other employees to lack effective labour and social protection.

Our latest data show progress in reducing informality among domestic workers but 4 in 5 still work informally, often without effective labour and social protection.
I urge all Member States to ratify and implement @ILO Convention 189 to advance decent work for domestic workers.

A productive conversation with Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon, Director of the ILO Office for the United Nations, on advancing decent work, labour rights and responsible business through the longstanding relationship between the @ILO and the @UN Global Compact.
From the 2025 World Social Summit to the Human Rights Roundtable convened during High-level Week of the 81st UN General Assembly, these joint initiatives have helped bring the private sector perspective to critical social development priorities. Cynthia’s leadership has been key to strengthening cooperation between the ILO and the UN Global Compact.

A decent job - that provides a living wage, rights, and social protection - is the best route out of poverty. It's also key to higher productivity.
And when the gains of growth are shared, economies are more resilient, societies more inclusive and trust in institutions stronger.
