Honored to have been able to meet Pope Leo XIV' today, during his audience with media representatives who were here to cover the conclave.
That first happy expression came when I mentioned I worked for The Pontifical Mission Societies USA @TPMS_USA.

Greatest commute in the world for an early morning.
(Would not recommend as a commute on a Wednesday morning, unless you want to share a moment of faith with tens of thousands of people led in reflection by the Pope)

This was a cool interview with a great priest from Latvia!!
During the beatification we talked about spaces that feel dry for American Catholics, the daily minutiae times. He said “thats when you just be a normal Catholic?” It was an oddly profound observation to me.
When communist authorities seized their churches as state property, Catholics and Orthodox stood together, praying through the night to defend them.

A new Vatican document asks a question at the heart of the Church's mission: How do we pass on faith in Jesus Christ in a rapidly changing world?
Venite ad me, requested by P. Francis and approved by P. Leo XIV, was released today by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
One of its strengths: contributions from bishops around the world, including Bangladesh, Nigeria, Tanzania and Myanmar.
Their experiences show how evangelization takes root through personal witness, community, local cultures and service to the poor.
The document challenges Catholics to move beyond simply maintaining institutions or teaching religious concepts.
The goal is to help people encounter Christ, embrace the Gospel and grow in faith.

Just in from the Pope's doctors, Luigi Carbone and Stefano Margaritora, on Leo's postoperative recovery: No need for further treatment, the cancer was localized.
The literal translation of what they said, for those who speak doctor: "Today, the final histological reports and molecular biology test results were released regarding the tissue removed during the Holy Father’s surgery. The results confirmed that the tumor was a pulmonary adenocarcinoma and that the disease was localized. A subsequent oncological evaluation confirmed that no further treatment is necessary."

I spoke with Pope Leo XIV @Pontifex and wished His Holiness a full and speedy recovery following his surgery. We are grateful that even during this difficult time for him personally, His Holiness remembers Ukraine and prays for our people.
I briefed him in detail on the situation with Russian escalation and Russia’s constant strikes on Ukrainian cities and communities. We also discussed the humanitarian catastrophe in temporarily occupied Oleshky. We are working to help our people there. We are preparing decisions. His Holiness informed me about contacts with the Russian side on this matter.
Of course, we also discussed all the current security challenges and threats, including the periodic lack of warnings from our partners about Russian ballistic missile attacks – something that has happened three times recently. I thank His Holiness for his support and all his efforts to achieve a dignified peace.

Today we celebrate the 100th World Mission Day. Let us think of how much missionary history has unfolded over these one hundred years! Let us #PrayTogether that the Church may always remain faithful to the mandate of the Risen Lord. Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.

Today is World Mission Sunday. Pope Pius XI established the day in 1926, and this year the Church celebrates its centenary.
Pope Leo XIV’s message for this year carries the theme “One in Christ, united in mission.” He asks the whole Church to renew its unity in Christ, since the unity of His disciples is directed toward mission “so that the world may believe.” He also thanks missionaries who leave home and family to bring the Gospel to difficult places and asks the faithful to keep them close in prayer.
The Apostolic Penitentiary has granted a plenary indulgence for World Mission Day. It is open to the faithful who receive Holy Communion and pray for the spread of the Gospel throughout the world, under the usual conditions: sacramental confession, prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father, and detachment from all sin. Confession may be made a few days before or after. The indulgence may also be applied to the souls of the faithful departed.
