Today I'd like to share a tool I recently wrote called Rulehound. It's a detection ruleset catalogue and search engine containing over 7,500 rules from 5 distinct sources. More details in thread. rulehound.com

We’re working with Cursor on this incident, but it wasn’t a compromise of Anthropic’s systems or employee laptops. A malicious actor used access to Cursor’s marketplace to publish a tampered copy of the Claude Code extension, which we didn’t build or publish. The versions on our official channels are not affected and this only impacts Cursor users.
We identified a security incident affecting a modified Claude Code VS Code extension accessed through our Cursor IDE extension marketplace, impacting at most 5,000 users. This malicious version of the extension was not developed by Anthropic. It does not impact other extensions downloaded from the cursor.com/marketplace, Grok Bot, Grok or our other SpaceXSI products. In response, we took down our extension marketplace this afternoon, worked with relevant providers to neutralize the malware, and have reinstated the marketplace after confirming there is no further risk. If affected, please review instructions in this blog post to understand how to find the malicious package and establish a path to mitigate any potential impact. We are asking all customers update to Claude Code for VS Code version 2.1.314: cursor.com/blog/claude-code-…

Cursor users: check your Claude Code extension. Cursor confirms a trojanized Anthropic.claude-code v2.1.313 in its extension marketplace on 29 October, 09:27 to 20:35 UTC. It estimates up to 5,000 affected users and identifies macOS ARM64 and Windows x64 builds. Loading the extension executes malicious code that collects host information and attempts to install a persistent SSH backdoor. Cursor says SSH access would fail on most hosts due to bugs and insufficient privileges. That limits remote access; it doesn’t undo malicious code execution. Credentials and repositories accessible to that account are potentially at risk. The package has been removed and the C2 taken offline. Uninstalling the extension may still leave persistence behind. If this version ran, investigate the host, remove persistence and rotate accessible credentials from a clean system. Updating the extension alone doesn’t prove the machine is clean. The vendor-confirmed distribution channel is Cursor’s marketplace. Microsoft VS Code uses a separate store. These reports don’t establish a compromised Microsoft Marketplace or malicious npm release. My recommendation: turn off automatic extension updates completely - for yourself and for your developers. With supply chain attacks like this, I don’t think the benefit of another feature or a minor UI fix justifies automatically accepting every new release onto developer machines. Update manually when something stops working, when a bug is actually getting in your way, or when a relevant security fix needs to be applied. Otherwise, leave a working extension alone. as bad as things have gotten in the past 4 days, they are going to get a lot worse before they get better. security leaders, never let a crisis go to waste: please go to your boards and ask for help right now. not for ai, for the basics. (we need to hold on for ~18 months.)
The vulnerability tsunami is coming in just a few months and there won’t be enough time to patch critical infrastructure. Network isolation described below (air-gaps and data diodes!) needed now!

🍎 New on LOOBins: loobins.io now serves /llms.txt, /llms-full.txt, and a markdown version of every binary page. Agents can now seamlessly add info from 76 macOS LOOBins to context.

Anthropic has replaced Git internally. The titans are falling.
New on our Engineering blog: Creating in-house source control. In May, we merged around 2,500 code changes per day. In September, we merged more than 30,000 per day. As a result, we became bottlenecked by developer infrastructure built for human (rather than agent) scale. Here, we share how we built a new version control system—and fully migrated our monorepo from git—in five months: anthropic.com/engineering/re…

So many people have wanted this service forever. So much so that there are many companies that only do this. And CF releases it as a feature.
We are expanding access to Cloudforce One's Threat Events Platform to every Cloudflare account and introducing Threat Signals. Threat Signals automatically parses open-source threat reporting, extracts structured indicators, and connects threat context directly to your WAF rules. cfl.re/4hkBxU8 #BirthdayWeek

🚨 Strong General Security Recommendation: Try to reduce your number of public-facing listeners as much as possible. For both work and personal stuff. That means the number of VPNs, SSH servers, public services, etc. Anything listening, especially if it’s like remote access / admin interfaces. We should expect all public services to be far more vulnerable going forward. Or, more precisely, for AI to be able to discover and exploit those vulnerabilities. I recommend you try to put as much as possible behind protection layers, i.e., not publicly available at all.

🚀 excited to ship Numbat, an open-source Go tool for endpoint visibility into AI agent activity, with local detection, optional pre-action blocking, and forensic reconstruction. i started it as a simple tool to collect on-disk session artifacts for local AI agents, for cases where no live telemetry was available. it quickly grew into a full D&R tool with live activity monitoring (hooks/OpenTelemetry), an on-device CEL detection engine with multi-step rules, optional enforcement, and support for desktop, CLI, and IDE agents. please give it a try, and file issues or feature requests if you run into anything! src: github.com/perplexityai/numb… blog: research.perplexity.ai/artic…
Today we’re open-sourcing Numbat, an agent-detection and response layer that is designed to work across agent harnesses. Numbat gives security teams visibility into agent activity, with controls to block selected actions before execution. Read more: research.perplexity.ai/artic…

Today @ianthiel and I published Part 1 of our thesis for the future of detection and prevention in the post-Mythos world. It is an architectural shift, not just better models. It's informed by building in this space at @sublime_sec for the past several years. Our intent with this series is to share our thinking in the hope that it reaches the right people, so we can collectively get better as defenders and protect what matters most from those who wish us harm. I hope you'll take a look and share your thoughts: sublime.security/blog/centra… Thank you to Zack Allen, @DAlperovitch, Haider Dost, @mark_dufresne, @filar, @riskybusiness, @rpargman, @samkscholten, @vector_sec, and @mr_cwitter for reading drafts of this.
