⭕️ The Trump administration is preparing sweeping sanctions on the International Criminal Court in defense of indicted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu
▪️ The sanctions would forbid most transactions with the ICC after a 6 to 7 month grace period, potentially cutting the court off from the US dollar and much of the global financial system, according to the Wall Street Journal.
▪️ A final decision could come as soon as this week, during the UN General Assembly meeting, officials said.
▪️ The US has already sanctioned several ICC officials, including former Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan, court president Tomoko Akane, and the lead prosecutor in the Netanyahu case; the new measures would target the institution's transactions broadly rather than individual officials.
▪️ Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in July the administration would dismantle the court "brick by brick”.
▪️ In 2024, the ICC issued warrants for Netanyahu and then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza, including the use of starvation as a method of warfare, murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts.

There are people wrongly criticizing @NerdeenKiswani for this entirely reasonable statement. In many jurisdictions, doctors, therapists and even lawyers — normally bound by strict confidentiality — are required by law to report when they reasonably believe that active clients present a danger to children, or are planning to commit a crime that is likely to result in death or substantial bodily harm. These are called mandatory reporting laws, and they are common. Here, we are not talking about historic, completed crimes, but an ongoing genocide. The idea that Zionist filmmakers should be uniquely entitled to protect the identities of people who for all we know are still actively engaged in mass murder, just for some introspective shooting-and-crying bullshit and some red carpet awards, is deeply dehumanizing to Palestinians. This does not make these Zionist filmmakers brave truth tellers but accessories to an ongoing genocide.
We must demand that Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor immediately release the names of every soldier to whom they granted confidentiality in their documentary NAZA while documenting admissions of war crimes.
There is something fundamentally perverse about creating films and journalism centered on Israeli soldiers confessing to atrocities against Palestinians while simultaneously protecting those soldiers from identification and potential accountability.
Palestinian suffering cannot simply become material through which Israeli filmmakers interrogate their own society, generate discourse, win acclaim, or invite audiences to contemplate the psychology of the perpetrators. These testimonies contain admissions of war crimes. The question cannot end with what these soldiers said or how their confessions made an audience feel. The question is what accountability follows.
Otherwise, Palestinian suffering is once again transformed into spectacle, while the people responsible for inflicting it remain protected.

Many years ago I had a discussion with a European diplomat who spoke about the importance of Palestinians engaging in exclusively non-violent opposition to Israeli policies.
I responded by asking him to identify one such form of opposition his government was prepared to publicly support.
He predictably responded with a bemused and very silent stare.
It was never about Palestinians taking up arms.
