IperionX can utilize a variety of titanium scrap as feedstock for its 100% recycled titanium metal powders. Our patented HAMR process is a hydrogen-enabled, low-temperature reduction process that can deoxygenate titanium minerals or a broad range of titanium scrap into low-oxygen angular and spherical titanium powders.

From powder and solids to turnings, cobble, or wire, our team is continually evaluating new “waste streams” for use in the HAMR process. Materials that may otherwise be downcycled or sent to landfill can instead be converted into high-value titanium metal powders.

Titanium scrap from industries including aerospace, automotive, medical, and more can be processed into high-quality powders for advanced manufacturing applications. Using powder metallurgy, @iperionx can then manufacture a broad range of titanium products with materially less waste than conventional machining-intensive routes. Even process scrap can be recycled back into IperionX’s HAMR process, creating a more efficient and closed-loop titanium manufacturing system in the U.S.

IperionX’s cold isostatic pressing (CIP) machine is installed at the Titanium Production Facility in Halifax County, VA. This machine supports simpler and larger-format products, including track pins, and provides complementary manufacturing routes for fasteners, plate precursors, track-pin development and other customer-specific products.

CIP works by compressing titanium metal powders uniformly from all directions, enabling the production of larger parts that may not be suitable for uniaxial pressing. After pressing, the components can be machined in the green state before undergoing @iperionx’s HSPT process, which transforms the compacted powder into strong, high-quality titanium parts.

This manufacturing route expands @iperionx’s ability to develop and produce near-net-shape titanium components while reducing the material waste associated with conventional, machining-intensive subtractive manufacturing.

The advanced 300-ton, six-axis powder metallurgy press has been successfully commissioned at IperionX’s Virginia Titanium Manufacturing Campus. This press can triple IperionX’s existing powder metallurgy capacity and materially expands the range of component geometries and production rates available for customer programs.

The press provides higher compaction force, multi-axis movement, improved repeatability and enhanced geometry control. It is capable of 24 pressing cycles per minute, equivalent to approximately 11 million single-cavity parts per year under stated operating assumptions, with higher part rates possible using multi-cavity tooling for simpler components.

Commissioning of the HSPT sintering furnace has commenced at the @iperionx Virginia Titanium Manufacturing Campus. This cold wall furnace will be used primarily for HSPT powder to part processing, increasing capacity, throughput and production flexibility. IperionX's patented HSPT technology enables conventional press-and-sinter powder metallurgy to transform titanium powder into semi-finished or near-net-shape components with wrought-like properties without melting. HSPT develops an ultra-fine-grained microstructure that incumbent titanium supply chains generally obtain through forging and extensive hot working, resulting in low-cost, high quality titanium parts.

GenX is @iperionx's next-generation continuous HAMR development platform, designed to transition titanium powder manufacturing from a batch-based operation to a continuous production architecture. This approach has the potential to significantly improve throughput, consistency, operating cost and capital efficiency. If ongoing developmental testing continues to validate this processing route and full commercialization is executed, GenX could represent a step-change in the economics and replicability of future titanium powder production. By creating a technology-led pathway to scale beyond the current batch-based production platform, GenX has the potential to support cost-effective expansion of future production capacity.
