People in the UK with Long COVID and ME:
Where @BethDobbin is bringing the smoke, let there be fire:
Now is the perfect time to arrange an in-person protest to show Downing Street the visual of how many people are affected by this illness, and also bringing attention to the current mistreatment of Savannah Victoria-May at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Needed to lead the organization are 2-3 patients and the same number of healthy (or mild) people committing just 4-6 hours a week.
Organizers in the Netherlands just pulled off a successful protest vigil, leading to numerous news stories, talk show program discussions, and finally forcing parliament's hand to pass a motion for action.
I have confirmed with the Dutch organizers that they are willing to consult and share their entire playbook.
The template is there. The moment is ripe. The next step is for willing organizers to take the lead.
Please DM me or reply if you have any interest in capitalizing on this historic moment (even if you're unsure - we can talk through it!) I will connect all those interested and we can let structure emerge organically.
For those that don't have the capacity, you can greatly help by spreading the word or connecting me with people that may be interested in organizing.

I’ve learned that physically healthy, able-bodied people think they can “earn” their health. That if they eat right, exercise, and “don’t be lazy,” they’ll be able-bodied forever.
This belief is the insidious underbelly of every piece of disability or healthcare legislation.

There’s an update on Savannah.
She's still in the hospital where they don't take her #severeME seriously and don't follow NICE guidelines. Full update in fundraiser.
Please share or donate if you're able.

I’ve reached the stage in which a feeding tube may be necessary, and I need to know who my mum can turn to, to help her advocate on my behalf if necessary. We’re in NHS Borders, and any/all UK names/contacts welcome.

okay there is no way that’s accurate for the Scottish highlands and islands, they have sheep everywhere you turn there

One of my colleagues asked me “Do you think you’re superior for not using AI in your work?” and I'm like, Thank you for that beautiful question. Yes, I do.
it’s so frustrating to me that the doctors talking about adhd and autism overdiagnosis refuse to consider the possibility (*cough* probability *cough*) that for years their profession was just doing a really bad job at identifying when people met the criteria they set
IMO the reason more people are getting diagnosed is that patients are also learning the diagnostic criteria and doing what the doctors should have done in the first place - noticing the signs

"They wouldn't treat *insert disability here* like this!"
"They wouldn't do this to *insert disability here*"
Yes. They do. Systemic ableism impacts every single disability whether you know it or not.
Stop pretending some disabilities get treated with respect when none do.
something I find genuinely baffling about the Lindsay Clancy case is that the arguments in court are so focused on whether or not she had hallucinations to determine whether or not she was in psychosis, but it was my understanding that delusions can also qualify as psychosis?
I saw one of the experts, I believe a forensic psychiatrist (?) actually referring to a belief of Lindsay’s as “delusional” and yet still coming to the conclusion she wasn’t in psychosis and could be held criminally responsible. am I missing something? why are they only concerned

Honestly I DO think some people cheating the system - whilst morally wrong on their part & unfair/annoying - is a worthwhile side effect to make sure millions of disabled people don't die on the street 🤷♀️
but tell us more how you liking and buying and paying for the wizard stuff isn’t connected.

If you want to talk about eating disorders you can do so without adding triggering photos of very thin or emaciated people to add shock value to your post so they go viral btw. That's allowed. Good, even.
using the tagline “illness is not the end of dance” when for so many of us illness HAS been the end of our hobbies…. it feels like having salt rubbed in the wound, to be honest
