Ms. Melissa Corkum, Chief of Polio, UNICEF Pakistan, visited Multan and met with the Director General Health, South Punjab, to discuss progress in polio eradication, routine immunization and integrated social and behaviour change interventions. During the meeting, Ms. Corkum appreciated the DG Health’s leadership in strengthening coordination between the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI), COMNet operations and community engagement. The DG Health highlighted regional progress, COMNet’s contributions and the Family MUAC SBC Initiative. Ms. Corkum also visited DHQ Hospital, South City, including the EPI Centre, BISP Nashonuma Centre and Stabilization Centre, where she interacted with healthcare workers and reviewed ongoing immunization and nutrition services. The visit reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration between government, UNICEF and partners to strengthen essential health services and reach vulnerable children and families. #EndPolio #PolioFreePakistan #ForEveryChild #VaccinesWork

Inspired to see #Sudan’s health workers going house to house to protect 11 million children from polio, despite a protracted conflict that has disrupted health services and left children vulnerable. Sudan has stopped polio outbreaks before. With sustained commitment and collective action, we can stop this outbreak too. #EndPolio @EndPolioNow
Sudan launched a nationwide polio vaccination campaign on 26 October 2026, to protect 11 million children against an ongoing outbreak of variant poliovirus, which started in 2024. Extraordinary efforts are being made to conduct this campaign. Health workers are working against all odds – a protracted conflict, famine in some parts of the country, and disrupted health services – to reach every eligible child. Sudan's health ministry is also synchronizing the campaign with Chad, Ethiopia and South Sudan to reach children from families on the move, alongside vaccinators stationed at transit points across Sudan's borders. @WHO, @UNICEFSudan and GPEI partners remain committed to ending polio in Sudan and the Region, with support from donors and partners. WHO has set clear targets: 60% of breast cancers detected at stage I or II; diagnosis completed within 60 days; and 80% of women completing their full course of treatment. Meeting these targets could save two and a half million lives by 2040. Watch Dr Adham Ismail, Officer-in-Charge of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, message for #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth.

October 24 | World Polio Day Eradicating polio is one of the major public health efforts to which The Rotary Foundation has been contributing for decades. Thanks to the mobilization of its nearly 1.2 million members worldwide, its partners, and vaccination campaigns, billions of children have been protected against this debilitating disease. I would like to recognize the Government of Canada, whose historic contribution to global polio eradication now exceeds CAD $1 billion. This is a remarkable commitment to children’s health and international solidarity. As a Paul Harris Fellow and former President of the Rotary Club of Old Montreal, I pay tribute to all those who, through their commitment and spirit of service, are advancing this essential cause. Together, let us continue our efforts until polio is finally eradicated. No child should be condemned to live with the consequences of a vaccine-preventable disease. #WorldPolioDay #EndPolio #RotaryInternational #ServiceAboveSelf #canada

The quest to #EndPolio continues to unite us. Polio cases are down by 99.9%. But 99.9% is unfinished business. With sustained commitment from governments and partners, we will finish the job and deliver a polio-free world for every child.

Two drops of vaccine symbolize polio eradication. But behind them is a whole network of people working together: health workers, communities, governments, laboratories and partners. Across the @WHOEMRO Region, countries including Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are joining forces with the wider Global Polio Eradication Initiative to protect children and bring us closer to a polio-free world. Ending polio has always been a collective effort, and regional solidarity remains essential to finishing the job.
