But Isabel May and director Joey Power had a different vision for her character. Speaking to Deadline at the Love Language premiere during SXSW in March 2026, Isabel explained: “I credit Joey. Joey just directed me to do that because I think on the page, you could go at it in very stereotypical fashion and make her kind of hollow and cruel unnecessarily,” May told @deadline. “And Joey was like, ‘No, she’s a human being with a heart pumping in her chest, ‘and so I tried to ground her in that she just loves this man so much that’s really she wants to be right for him, and she wants to be able to express herself, and she can’t. Not all of us are gifted with that ability." "And so suddenly she’s not a villain or anything. She’s someone that’s flawed and trying to navigate life like everyone else.”
