Good to meet with Tony and the team at Emmaus-Suffolk to hear about their work in supporting people in Ipswich who are at risk of homelessness and isolation. The Royal Oak is home to a range of community sessions. Find out more about their work here: emmaus.org.uk/suffolk/our-hu…

Great explainer of our Government's Pride in Place programme and what it means for Ipswich👇 The £1.5 million Impact Fund is funding upgrades for 25 organisations across Ipswich. Chantry and Stoke Park, and Whitehouse, will receive £20 million each too. ipswichstar.co.uk/news/26678…

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

The building safety crisis has ruined so many lives in Ipswich and across the country. The Building Safety Bill cannot give back the years people lost, but it focuses on making homes safe, protects people from unfair costs and holds those responsible accountable. My speech 👇

Yesterday, @Jess4Lowestoft and I met the Minister for Public Health, @DianaJohnsonMP, to raise our deep concerns over Reform's proposals to axe Suffolk's community staff nurses. Under their plans, Reform would cut up to 50 nurses putting babies, children, and families at risk.

You can write to your local councillor on Suffolk County Council urging them to oppose Reform's damaging proposals: writetothem.com/ With a decision expected in the next few weeks, it is not too late for them to reverse their brutal cuts to this crucial family service.

We have also written to the leader of the Reform-led Suffolk County Council, urging him to reverse his administration's planned cuts which would harm children and families. Reform promised not to cut frontline services - they must stick to that pledge. ipswichstar.co.uk/news/26680…

Antisocial behaviour can make life a real misery, leaving people feeling frustrated and unsafe. Respect Orders will help ensure persistent offenders face consequences while giving authorities the tools they need to protect communities and support victims. ipswich.co.uk/repeat-antisoc…

My Budget today will help families with the pressures they face now. It will back businesses and entrepreneurs, invest in Britain's future, and strengthen our national security. A plan to get through this moment and build a stronger Britain.

A fortnight ago at PMQs, I urged the Prime Minister, @andyburnham, to put co-operative principles at the heart of our new National Care Service. We must fix this broken system and put people over profit. That's what our loved ones deserve when it comes to social care.

These are extraordinary numbers and underlines the power of art and culture. That's 20,000 people coming to discover and rediscover Ipswich. Once again, congratulations and thank you to the team who brought the Hay Wain home to Suffolk. We are so proud. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c875…

You're an MP, not a key board warrior. You've been exposed for doing nothing to support Ipswich's City of Culture bid, then trying to criticise others & now deflecting. Start doing your job as a local MP, then you will be in a better position to criticise others for their work.
Day before a Labour budget and you’re getting wound up like a 4 year old on Twitter. Get on with your job of persuading HMT that businesses in Suffolk want to see their taxes cut. Or does he not listen to you either.

You do nothing all year to support a town you nominally, partially represent. You get exposed for not lifting a finger. You've not thanked any of the brilliant people who worked on the bid, or celebrated our town. And you've blamed other people despite that. Weird behaviour.
Always blaming others for your own incompetence

1 comment to the press at the start of the year was your sum total contribution to the bid? Could you point me to the other times you supported it or the work you personally put in? You're so disengaged you don't even know the process - it's a panel headed by Sir Phil Redmond.
I publicly backed the bid. But you are the one in Government and I assumed you could persuade your own Secretary of State. I assumed she listened to you. Nether seem to be the case.

It was such a joy to join Suffolk Bengali Society for their Durga Puja event at the weekend. It was such a vibrant, colourful and happy celebration with hundreds of people in attendance across both days. Thank you to all those who worked so hard in making it happen.

What a bizarre, ill-informed and negative statement. Despite nominally representing 3 wards in Ipswich, you did next to nothing to support our City of Culture bid. Even now, there is no message of pride or thanks to the people who worked so hard, just a weak political attack.
“The final nail in the coffin came with the disappointing news that Ipswich has been passed over as the City of Culture. Despite the local MP being the Secretary of State’s Parliamentary Secretary, Ipswich still lost out to … Wrexham! Words desert me.” My pre-budget op-ed for the @EADT24 eadt.co.uk/news/26669992.suf…

Retail crime is a scourge on our communities. As a Government we are taking action to tackle this issue, but there is work to be done locally too. That's why I brought together @SuffolkPolice and @EoECoop to see what more we can do so shop workers and customers feel safe.

Autumn has definitely arrived, but our @IpswichLabour team are out every week, all year round, talking to local residents, even if it's a bit wet, rainy or cold! This weekend, we met people in Downside Close. Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak to us.
