Delighted to announce that I have been awarded a 3-year @LeverhulmeTrust Early Career Fellowship to join @GeographyUOM at @OfficialUoM, under the mentorship of @JZCOS
My project will develop new methods, theory and natural experiment research on urban environments and wellbeing

Grateful to Marilyn Wende @DrDecRyan Rachel Thomson and @drhipp for collaborating on this paper.
🚨 New commentary paper out today in @IJBNPA
We discuss how tech can scale up natural experiments in physical activity research:
📱⌚ Apps & wearables
📍 Geolocation
🎥 Automated observation
🏙️ Env audits

🚨 New paper alert in @SJWEH 🚨
Our qualitative evidence synthesis explores shift workers' views of sleep, fatigue and health behaviours.
Key conclusion: sleep education alone is unlikely to be effective, and interventions should support self-regulation

Use of video cameras to assess effects of built environment natural experimental interventions is feasible and reliable - and can assess behaviours at night (not possible with in-person observations)
NEW PAPER: We show that stationary video cameras can reliably assess physical activity and other wellbeing behaviours in public spaces without reactivity.
A cost-effective and more flexible alternative to traditional in-person observation methods🎥

I enjoyed collaborating on this published natural experiment, showing how community gardens provided crucial green space access during COVID-19 in China.
We adapted our MOHAWk observation tool, which showed increased use of a community garden:

Very pleased to have been awarded ‘Best Outstanding Interdisciplinary Researcher 2024’ in @FBMH_UoM
An excellent way to finish my time in the Faculty before I move to @UoMHumsResearch @GeographyUOM to start my @LeverhulmeTrust Early Career Fellowship next month.
@UoMResDev
Not long now until I join @GeographyUOM @OfficialUoM to start my @LeverhulmeTrust Early Career Fellowship project, focusing on urban green spaces and wellbeing!
