President Trump's planned 250-foot-tall arch would cast shadows on many graves and monuments in nearby Arlington National Cemetery, the @washingtonpost's 3-D analysis found. On some days, Trump's arch would even shade the grave and eternal flame of JFK.

Born on October 27, 1858, Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, left a lasting mark on America’s public lands. During his presidency, he established five national parks, designated 18 national monuments, created 51 federal bird reservations, and protected approximately 230 million acres of public land for future generations. Today, you can celebrate his birthday by visiting a national park site for free!

The White House Correspondents' Association strongly objects to the decision to restrict a journalist’s coverage simply because the president didn’t care for their questioning. That is retaliation. The American public's right to an independent press depends on reporters being able to do their jobs without fear that challenging the president will cut off their access. - Jacqui Heinrich, WHCA President

How many lawyers does it take to destroy Hains Point? What a sad fact that the fate of a public park that serves all could be converted into something meant to serve so few. We implore people to recognize that this is not about Trump - we just want to preserve our park.

East Potomac Park was established more than a century ago by Congress for the recreational leisure of the people: golfers, hikers, bikers, walkers, yoga classes and you name it. Hundreds of thousands of people in the DMV and visitors from elsewhere enjoy this beautiful landmark. Of course, Trump’s now trying to steal it for another imbecilic vanity project so billionaires and Trump’s royal court have another place to golf. They have already illegally demolished hundreds of trees where they want the new course to go. With Halloween approaching, maybe it’s time for a march of the Loraxes to stop this criminal desecration and destruction of federal property. washingtonpost.com/sports/20…

Donald, your lawyers told a federal court that the golf course redesign was still conceptual. Then you announced the design, a construction schedule, and declared that nobody’s approval was necessary. Meanwhile, your administration cut down hundreds of trees over a holiday weekend despite the court’s instructions about providing advance notice. The judge questioned your government’s conduct, so your Justice Department tried to have her removed. She rejected that motion. And now you’re calling her a “crazed lunatic” because she insists the government follow the law? That’s adorable. Here’s something you apparently missed in your extensive experience with golf courses: Public land isn’t your personal country club, and the Constitution doesn’t contain a presidential mulligan. Federal agencies have legal obligations. Courts have the authority to review whether those obligations are being met. And judges don’t lose that authority because the President throws a tantrum. You can call the renovation “World Class” until you’re blue in the face. It doesn’t make your legal obligations disappear. Donald, the rule of law doesn’t stop at the eighteenth hole. And being President doesn’t entitle you to move the goalposts, ignore the referee, and declare yourself the winner. That’s not how golf works. It’s certainly not how a constitutional republic works.

Kamala Harris passed the bar and became California's attorney general. Katie Zacharia failed the bar and became Trump's press secretary. Guess which one Trump mocked for her intelligence?

Thank you @SPLC for the work that you do.
When a member of Congress threatens a student journalist for doing their job, the student isn't the one who needs a lesson in the law. We applaud University of Maryland student journalist Cat Murphy for knowing the law and standing her ground on behalf of the readers she serves. When Rep. Andy Harris claimed she couldn't record his news conference — and threatened prosecution if she continued — she knew that his threats were empty under Maryland's state recording laws. Check out her conversation below with CNN's @jaketapper about how, and why, she stood her ground. Student journalists are journalists. They have the same right to cover a public official as anyone in the press pool. They deserve the same respect when they do. At SPLC, we stand with all the student journalists who face threats, intimidation or retaliation. If you have questions about your state's recording laws, or you've faced a threat like this, contact our Legal Hotline for free, confidential help: splc.org/legalhelp
