One of the worst things about US sports leagues continuously maximizing profit over passion is that the world’s best players don’t get to compete in environments like this. Real fans get priced out and the atmosphere at games becomes much less fun.

A widow of a killed mobilized Russian soldier speaks to other war wives after visiting "the new territories" where her husband was killed. "People here don't need it, they don't want us. Your beloved are dying here for nothing." Whatever it takes for some of them to wake up.
"Я приехала к своему мужу в Бердянск, на территорию Запорожской области. Я хочу вам сказать, что здесь людям это не нужно. Наши любимые люди гибнут просто ни за что" Жена погибшего российского солдата записала видеообращение и рассказала о том, как изменился ее взгляд на войну

The stubborn reluctance of international women’s rights organisations to condemn the systematic rape and sexual mutilation of women by Hamas in Israel, has been shameful and inexcusable. It betrays a partisan agenda which wholly undermines the international progress that has been made to give women a voice as victims of sexual violence. There can be no hierarchy of victims in which Israeli women find themselves relegated to triviality. bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-…

BREAKING: State Department spokesman Mathew Miller says it seems that the reason Hamas refused to release all the women who it held hostage was because the terror group didn't want them to tell what they went through while in captivity in Gaza

I just watched the roughly 45-minute footage of October 7th at a private screening in NYC. Here are my immediate thoughts minutes after watching it. 🧵

Gregg Popovich asked whether any of us were carrying guns at the end of his pregame media chat. "I just wondered because we have a governor and lieutenant governor and an attorney general that made it easier to have more guns. That was a response to our kids getting murdered.”

When reporting on Evan's ordeal, avoid repeating the Russian narrative. The fact that he is a hostage is the story, not the supposed charges against him. Constantly humanize Evan. Drop all our notions of competition and steel ourselves for a potentially long ordeal. #FreeEvan
Jason, you've been in Evan's situation. What would you suggest that the journalistic community do to support him?

Wow. @substack experimented with pricing, reducing it by 1 cent, so e.g. instead of $10/month, do $9.99/month. The result? A significant decrease for the pricing ending with .99. Which goes against conventional pricing wisdom!! Why it's worth running experiments!

“I’m against the war, but . . .  People are biological creatures and have to adapt.” I wrote about life in Moscow, where indifference to the death and misery Russia’s army is wreaking in Ukraine has been normalized – and where the champagne still flows. ft.com/content/fb2186cc-d61d…

2022 has been a lesson in never judging a book, nor a country, by its cover. At the end of February, while the city of Kharkiv was still under attack, I met 21 yo, Eugene Gromadskyi. At the time I had no idea what he, nor Ukraine, were capable of. bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-…

AT&T’s $100 billion acquisition of Time Warner is hardly the first deal to have gone disastrously awry. But few mergers have stirred up such seething resentments and finger-pointing. It was a strategic miscalculation unrivaled in recent corporate history. nyti.ms/3Eoh8sy
