#Brazil: Terrific, unexpected news. President #Lula won the run-off. But the Brazilian far-right will be more powerful than ever in the new Congress, and the #AmazonRainforest is one of their priority targets.
The likely victory of the far-right in #Brazil on October 25 is a climate emergency for the entire planet. Flávio Bolsonaro will start burning the Amazon rainforest again, pushing it closer to a "tipping point." My warning

#Haiti: Big potential danger here. The 2000 Salvadoran soldiers (understandably) do NOT speak #Haitian Kreyol or French, and are obviously not familiar with reality there. Confusion could lead to the killing of innocent civilians. @AmbDanFoote @moniclesca @FrancesRobles

This is bad, #NYTimes. Why do you nowhere explain that #Egypt has 60,000 political prisoners, 4 times the number in #Iran? The shutdown of @MadaMasr is terrible, but only part of a much larger story. @RamiKhouri nytimes.com/2026/10/27/world…

Israeli opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot must decide -- is his racist, Islamophobic hatred so intense that he would rather re-empower Netanyahu as head of a "unity" government despite his disastrous policies than join forces with Israeli Arab parties. trib.al/QQXB4Oo

With multiple flights today, there are now 1300 Salvadoran troops in Haiti under a bilateral agreement with the Haitian government.
« Avec les 690 militaires arrivés aujourd’hui, il y a maintenant un contingent de 1 300 soldats salvadoriens en Haïti. Ce déploiement est fait en communication avec le gouvernement haïtien. C’est un pays ami qui aide. Ce n’est pas une invasion du pays », a confié au Nouvelliste une source gouvernementale, mardi 27 octobre 2026.

David Bacon: “ Si Se Puede” are three words we all use now, but Dolores Huerta invented this confident way of saying “Yes We Can!” “Tocino” was the nickname the union gave me in the years I worked as an organizer—it means “bacon,” my last name. And calling me “El Rojo,” or “The Red,” in this way honored my politics.

What a preposterous and prejudiced thing to say to an American analyst of Iranian heritage, as though I'm somehow responsible for Iran's political system.
I've written extensively about Iranian elections and how tightly controlled they are.
Your reaction to someone stating basic facts about Israeli politics is telling of your own overt biases and constant editorializing, neither of which is becoming of a serious and credible journalist.

My analysis for @pressfreedom on Egypt’s unprecedented crackdown on the press, from jailing the entire Matsdaash newsroom to putting @MadaMasr Editor-in-Chief Lina Attalah on trial. I look at how authorities have turned journalism itself into a crime. cpj.org/2026/10/whos-next-in…

💢🇭🇹 "We fear that these armed conflicts will claim even more victims and displace even more people in the coming days, particularly with the arrival of additional international security forces," said Davina Hayles, head of mission in Haiti for Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
MSF said its hospitals in Port-au-Prince's Tabarre and Cité Soleil neighborhoods have treated 30 people wounded by gunfire or drone explosions, including women and children, since Oct. 18. That day, four Salvadoran soldiers with the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force went missing in a gang ambush on the capital's outskirts.
Gunfire and drone explosions have since surged in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac, northeast of the capital, MSF said. The force and Haitian police have been carrying out search operations there with air support and El Salvador has rushed about 1,000 troops to Haiti, a Haitian security official told Reuters, adding to a force of about 2,000 personnel
Following more than 10 days of intense security operations aimed at locating four missing Salvadoran soldiers, @MSF_USA warns that "30 patients injured by gunfire or drone explosions were admitted and treated at MSF hospitals in Tabarre and Cité Soleil," including women and children.
