Hey all! @propublica published 2 phenomenal stories today on the @MLB and the blind eye turned toward exploitive practices of young prospects in the Dominican Republic. Both are #longreads #mustreads that dive deeply into a system of corruption and abuse that preys on the poorest of families. Sit down and make time. Unbelieveable reporting by @ggarciaroberts and @mrym_jml
A few weeks ago, after two years of work, I published a story unlike any I’d encountered in my 18 years at ProPublica. I’ve been off social media for a while, but I felt compelled to come back to share some of my reporting journey here. 🧵
This describes only a tiny part of my journey through memory, handwritten records, confessions, denials and a series of events that changed the law on campus rape.
By the end, I learned that no part of the Syracuse criminal justice system back then could be depended on.
I hope you’ll read the story here: propublica.org/article/alice…
