"You chose hate and Michigan chose hope," @AbdulElSayed says to his defeated Republican opponent Mike Rogers. "May we never have to see the likes of you in Michigan again."

All the demographic destiny stuff continues to be loser talk from the 2000s. In the Trump era we've had massive swings in voting behavior by education, age, race, religion, and then back again, we've had a Texas R+2, a Texas R+14, and a Texas D+11 election, it's all up for grabs.

YOU. CANNOT. FUCK. THIS. UP. THIS. TIME. @TheDemocrats
The 2010 margin was 6.8 points, an election remembered as a generational wipeout. Tonight is expected to almost double that. 2008 was 10.5 and 2006 was 8.0. A thirteen point win would be the biggest congressional margin in fifty years.

With enough seats flipped, the PA State Senate returns to Dem control for the first time in three decades and gives them their first trifecta since 1993. At 26 seats, they will not need to rely on tiebreaker technicalities. Big possibilities for Shapiro and co.

The rest of the country is voting to decide the fate of American democracy. But here in the District of Columbia, we must content ourselves with voting on the moral merits of foie gras.

To me, one of the clearest arguments that some form of price regulation needs to a regular and ongoing feature of federal economic policy is the simple fact that “price over volume” is a standard, well-known strategy in business management.
One major consequence of the K-shaped economy? The $48 cocktail. More and more companies are abandoning everyday Americans to chase wealthy customers who can afford to pay exorbitant prices. Meanwhile, the rest of us get priced out.

Clear explanation of how inequality feeds inflation: firms choose price over volume

There's one small, unglamorous, word that would immensely improve public discourse about Israel, American Jews and antisemitism. It's the word "some." Every time I hear a pro-Israel Jewish pundit declaring that "Abdul El-Sayed makes Jews feel unsafe" or "Jews feel uncomfortable in today's Democratic Party," I think: What's with the royal we? We Jews are famously disputatious. And that division now extends to basic questions about the nature of Israeli state. 39% of American Jews think Israel committed genocide (Washington Post, Sept 2025) A plurality of American Jews under 35 favor a single democratic state from the river to the sea. (Jewish Voter Resource Center, May 2026) So yes, some American Jews fear Abdul El-Sayed and the Democratic Party's pro-Palestinian direction. But others love it. Is the divide 50-50? No. It's probably somewhere between 75-25 and 60-40. (As a rough proxy, Mamdani won about a third of the Jewish vote). But it sure as heck doesn't entitle anyone to project their own views onto American Jews as a whole. So, next time, include the word "some." Because no one elected you Pope.

G.K. Chesterton’s old adage remains undefeated: “The poor sometimes object to being governed badly. The rich always object to being governed at all.”
an important reminder that if they are ever faced with the prospect of having slightly less money and power, oligarchs will always side with authoritarianism

The deficit is only a problem if it’s contributing to inflation. Inflation is currently 3.7%. That could be lower. But it’s not unusually high, historically speaking. It’s also clearly the result of tariffs and energy supply/cost shocks, not fiscal stimulus. 1/

As for the debt, short-term interest rates are always and everywhere what the Fed wants them to be. Period, end of discussion. And long-term rates eventually converge with short-term rates. So the size of the debt simply isn’t a problem and never will be. 2/2
