In interview after interview with Poles in the villages around the Reinhard extermination camps, they knew what was happening. Here Lanzmann asks a farmer in Poniatowo, the closest village to Treblinka, whether he knew the Jews were being exterminated there:
Farmer: “Oh, come on, sir. Come on. Is that even something to ask?”
Lanzmann: “Did the stench of the bodies reach here too?”
Farmer: “It did. With the wind… Very strong. Mornings, like now, or evenings, you heard the crying, everything.”
Farmer: “Twenty cars, a hundred people each, on average, because those were cattle cars, of course, right? Those from abroad came in normal cars, all in order… Jews from abroad didn't even believe they were going to die. They believed it was the colonies. People warned them there, and they laughed at it.”
Lanzmann: “How did you warn those Jews?”
Farmer: “We said: you're going there. [draws a finger across his throat] No common language. That was the simplest way.”
This comes from the Claude Lanzmann Shoah outtakes at USHMM (Treblinka, RG-60.5077), filmed in 1978. USHMM has no transcript for this reel, so I subtitled it from the Polish audio, checked against the interpreter's French. Cut and captioned by me.
What did Haviv get right, wrong and who gives a fuck! jewlicious.com/2026/10/israe…
This is an important thing to clarify. True, Netanyahu won a very small increase in absolute numbers of votes, but he lost ground by every other metric. He lost not only to the high Arab turnout, he also lost vote share among Jews.
Walk with me for a moment through the numbers. And don't believe the partisans. His supporters will tell you he beat out the Channel 12 polling, which is true. But he also fell far short of Channel 14's polling. The bottom line isn't whether the polls were good (they were not), but in what happened at the actual ballot box. Now that the votes are counted, here's what happened.
From 2022 to 2026, the total eligible-voter population grew by about 8% as just over 600,000 young Israelis turned 18. And that new cohort leans right and religious -- i.e., heavily in Netanyahu's favor. So his "natural" expected growth is probably higher than that.
But Likud's actual vote total grew by just 4.67%.
And some of that was cannibalizing Shas and Otzma, to the frustration of both parties. Netanyahu's bloc as a whole only rose about 3.9%.
Did those young voters stay home? We don't know yet. The age breakdown hasn't been published. But the soldiers' turnout -- most of them young -- was about 80%, higher even than the amazingly high average turnout. It's possible that young Haredi voters stayed home, but this wouldn't explain Likud itself falling behind. And United Torah Judaism's vote total grew by almost 12%, suggesting a high young-Haredi turnout.
Were the losses caused by natural deaths of older Likudniks? Also no. Only about 200,000 people died between the elections, and their age group leans left-ward compared to the general population. The effect was far too little to explain the real-vote gap, and should have favored Netanyahu in vote share.
The same goes for emigration/vote tourism. Probably at least three times as many Israelis left the country since 2022 than could possibly have returned briefly to vote on Election Day (that's an educated guess; I can't find hard numbers). And that emigration was composed of a higher share of opposition voters. This phenomenon should also have favored Netanyahu's bloc in the vote share.
Nor was Likud's decline just a function of Arab turnout, as the real vote numbers show. If you remove Arab-party votes from the total for the past two elections, the Netanyahu bloc's share falls from 54.2% in the 2022 election to 49.4% on Tuesday. That's a decline in the non-Arab vote share, where he only wins about 59 seats.
In other words, even though his camp almost certainly benefited from a young demographic surge, from natural deaths that shrank the opposition, and from three years of relatively high emigration of opposition voters -- Netanyahu still fell behind in overall vote share even among Jews.
That's not enough to "lose" an Israeli election because of how Israel's electoral system works -- and because of how poorly the opposition managed its campaign over the past four years. But there's no way to spin those numbers as a rallying behind Netanyahu. He lost significant ground among veteran right-wing Jewish voters.
Let's help out Yahav and Rotem. Serving your country should not leave you without food and shatter your ability to make a living.
Hi, my name is Yahav Ohana. I’m writing this message with great difficulty and tears in my eyes because, unfortunately, my wife Rotem and I have no other choice left.
My wife Rotem and I have served hundreds of days in military reserve duty, giving everything we could for our country. Sadly, the business I started collapsed as a result of my extended periods of reserve service, leaving us with overwhelming debt.
In the midst of everything we’ve been through, we welcomed our first daughter into the world. She has brought us tremendous joy, but unfortunately, we’ve reached a point where we can no longer afford to buy food.
We are hundreds of thousands of shekels in debt, and we have no way to get back on our feet.
Our friends have launched a fundraising campaign to help save us from bankruptcy, and we desperately need the support of the people of Israel.
I come from a bereaved family, having lost a loved one in service to our country. When my country needed me, I answered the call without hesitation.
Now, I’m the one asking for your help.
Every donation, no matter how small, means the world to us and to our little daughter.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Yahav

I feel lucky to be Israeli.
Out of 14m Palestinians in the Middle East, Arab Israelis are the *only* ones that get a vote.
Palestinians in West Bank haven't voted since 2006, stuck under a 90 year old dictator.
Lebanese Palestinians don't even get the citizenship.
Jordanian Palestinians have a.........king.
You may not like this, but the best thing to happen to Palestinians is to live inside Israel.
Eat your heart out.
Wonder what the clown, @nasdaily is feeling right now after Zionists have shed their mask about what they actually feel about "Arab Israelis" 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Before Israel voted, we said Netanyahu's camp would get 53 seats. The count says 53. Part 2: every pollster graded against the real count, what we missed and why, and the one coalition that gets to exactly 61:

There isn't a single pro-Israel influencer who hasn't pointed to Arab parties and Arab MKs as proof that we have no Apartheid. But now some on the right are calling for Arab parties/MKs to be banned. Is it too much to ask for moral consistency??
Everyone has a hot take on the exit polls. We have a 50,000-run model, a pollster-by-pollster scorecard, and the turnout number from one Arab town that explains the night. What we got right, what we got wrong, and why. Kink in 1st comment 👇
One really good result from the Israeli elections? No way Itamar Ben Gvir gets to be defense minister any time soon.

Likud Headquarters are uh... less than jubilant after exit polls released showing a majority rejection of Bibi and his government. It's actually kind of empty. Most there are reporters.
Omg how cool would it be to ride to my voting booth in Katamon, Jerusalem, on a camel? Bedouins are so cool.

Michel Ilouz whose son Guy was a murdered hostage in Gaza, was assaulted at Mahane Yehuda market while protesting against Bibi. Is this the Israel we want?
David @Israellycool is a riot. I think he really did just free Palestine!
