The "Final Goodbye" - the viral photo capture the two captive Asian elephants stretching their trunks toward each other from separate transport trucks, one final time before being separated forever.... In December 2016, a photograph taken on an Indian highway captured a moment that moved people worldwide. Freelance writer Sowmya Vidyadhar shared the image online, highlighting a moment of connection before both animals entered a lifetime of human service. This interaction shows that animals experience deep emotional responses. Elephants live in close family groups led by older females, forming lifelong bonds. They raise calves together, share food, and support each other during times of distress. "Elephants have a remarkable capacity for empathy," notes animal behavior researcher Dr. Ananya Rao. "They remember family members for decades, mourn their dead, and show clear sadness when losing a companion. When taken from their herds, they experience significant grief." The highway photograph illustrates the impact of captivity. As traffic passed, the elephants focused entirely on each other, using their trunks to comfort one another. "You could hear them making soft rumbling sounds. It was clear they did not want to separate." For decades, elephants have been captured for work in temples, tourism, and heavy labor. While valued for their physical strength, the emotional strain of separation is often overlooked. Being removed from a herd leads to long-term isolation. Looking at that photograph, we are left to reflect on how we interact with the natural world. By recognizing animal emotions, we can support better protection and freedom for future generations of elephants. This heartbreaking farewell is not an isolated incident; it is the everyday reality of an industry that treats living, feeling beings as mere tools for human profit. Until we refuse to support businesses that exploit wild animals, we remain complicit in their suffering. Real compassion means speaking up against animal abuse and demanding that these emotional, intelligent creatures be allowed to live free in the wild where they belong. #archaeohistories

I don't usually celebrate album anniversaries. I have a hard time perceiving the past. I like now, and what's to come. But this album, that turns 20 today, changed my life. I'd had success already, but everything clicked into place on this album. I met some of the greatest musicians and engineers in the world and learned so much about making records from them. When I think back on what made the album so special, some thoughts come to mind, and they're worth my remembering: Life came into the room. I rode bikes on the beach. I was goofy - most of the images from these years are of me doing something wacky. The record took time. Months of writing, giving up on lots of songs, writing new ones, moving studios, taking breaks. As I get older l tend to expect results faster. I get frustrated a little easier. But it's always been the same; you work weeks and months on songs. Some don't make it, but it's never a waste of time. You live more life, you write more songs, and the process starts again. You cherish the tight little list of tunes that matter. When just one joins the ranks, it's a blessing. Joy wins out over discouragement. You have fun with your friends, who are all on the journey of exploring the unknown with you. Great albums are built in layers. You have to become different versions of yourself to create a lasting body of work. Nobody cares how long it takes if the music is meaningful. If you want to make something truly special, you have to bring talented people in the room to contribute. Steve and Pino. Chad Franscoviak and Joe Furla engineering along with Don Smith and Dave O'Brien. Martin Pradler editing vocals. René Martinez handing me the guitar. Ricky Peterson on keys, @jamesbvalentine played some guitar on Stop This Train. Larry Goldings played B3 and @aliciakeys sang backgrounds on Gravity. Roy Hargrove played trumpet. Charlie Hunter played on In Repair. @BenHarper played slide guitar on Belief. Willie Weeks played bass with Pino on I Don't Trust Myself With Loving You. The right music with the right people at the right time in my life. That's all you can ever hope for. And thank YOU, dear reader, for giving life to these songs. Onward...

Replying to @jiwonmoon90
@jiwonmoon90 forced me to reflect right after our last cohort ended. I thought it was a bit too personal so I hadn't shared it, but it does a good job of explaining why we do Puentes. If any curious mind wants to understand, and this helps them decide to apply :)

There are 3-4 people outside my building in Haight Ashbury who set up a mattress and have been living there for the past two weeks. I called 311 for help and the responder really said:

On my 311 call today, the responder said I can't give you an estimate of when we can solve this issue when I told her it's been two weeks since my last request. Why does 311 even exist when the answer is "nothing can be done"?

People think SF has gotten better over the last year but where I reside/work in Haight Ashbury and the Mission, things have been far worse.

We regret that the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs misunderstood the intent of the President's remarks—which were an expression of his convictions regarding universal human rights rather than an opinion on any specific issue—and subsequently countered them. The Government of the Republic of Korea remains steadfast in its opposition to all forms of violence and anti-humanitarian acts, including the acts of terrorism pointed out by Israel. We have consistently maintained the position that international humanitarian law and human rights must be upheld without exception. Furthermore, we continue to empathize deeply with the unspeakable suffering endured by Israel due to the Holocaust, and we once again express our profound condolences to the victims of the Holocaust.

FUCK OFF. I'm proud to have a president who speaks against war crimes.
The remarks by the President of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, including the trivialization of the massacre of Jews on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel, are unacceptable and warrant strong condemnation. President Lee Jae Myung, for some strange reason, chose to dig up a story from 2024 and to cite a fake account that falsely presented it as a current event. This account is notorious for spreading anti-Israeli disinformation and falsehoods about Israel. The event discussed occurred during an operation against terrorists, at a time when Israeli soldiers were facing direct and immediate threats to their lives. The event was thoroughly investigated and addressed two years ago. Yet we have not heard a single word from the President about the terrorists who were at the center of this event. Nor have we heard a word from the President regarding the recent Iranian and Hezbollah terror attacks against Israeli citizens. Mr. President, it’s always better to check before posting.
