Indian middle class isn't working 10-12 hours everyday to become rich anymore. They're working to buy protection from Govt failures. Private school for children. Private hospital for parents. Car because public transport is pathetic. Air purifier because clean air itself became luxury. Water purifier because you can't trust tap water. Gated society because basic security isn't guaranteed. And Govt still arrives every month before everyone else to collect its share. You pay for governance and then pay again because governance didn't deliver.

> India is also caught in a no-man's land, not cheap enough for value investors to pile in but not growing fast enough to attract growth investors either. from: nitter.cf/_prashantnair/status/2…
The Risk Of Irrelevance ! Akash Prakash writes in the @bsindia The good news before all the bad news - Akash believes all this data is more a contrarian indicator & not a reason to turn more negative on India. Read on - from the column 👇 1. "At only 10%, we are half what we used to be and three countries — Taiwan, Korea and China — are 70% of the EM index. Do you really need to bother with India? Even getting India wrong will not really move the needle. Over the last 10 years, India has anyway underperformed the EM indices by about 180 basis points annually. Even on a 20-year basis, India has just marginally outperformed" 2. "Second, many investors have come to the conclusion that India may not deliver enough absolute returns. Their calculations are as follows: The Nifty index in rupees has delivered about 10.5% p.a. over the last 20 years. Assuming a capital gains tax impact of about 15%, this brings the return down to about 8.9%. Then, assuming a near 4% rupee depreciation (the average over the last 20 years), this brings the return down to about 6% in dollar terms" 3. "All allocators are upset about the capital gains tax. They do not pay these taxes in any other major jurisdiction. It drops projected long-term annualised returns by about 2% & that is a huge difference when comparing countries over long holding periods." 4. "India is also seen as the biggest global loser from artificial intelligence (AI), as our key advantages of demographics and a skilled white-collar workforce lose relevance in an AI-first world." 5. "India is also caught in a no-man's land, not cheap enough for value investors to pile in but not growing fast enough to attract growth investors either." #Nifty #BankNifty #Trump #IranWar‌ #Rupee #LTCG

For deepseek, "Off-peak rates are half of the peak rates..." Surprisingly weekends are off peak. I would assume people use GenAI more on weekends. Any idea how Deepseek counts their peak and non-peak hours?

I don’t think people realize how selfless and wonderful the StackOverflow’s founders were. Unlike reddit, x etc they insisted ALL of their content will be 100% open, nothing will ever be locked up in walled garden. They made it a point by even offering structured data downloads! They didn’t cared people cloning the website. They didn’t worry about putting the whole monetization thing at risk. It was a true hacker spirit in it’s purest form. Most folks won’t be able to grasp how hard this is. You are on top of the world. Millions of people depend on you daily. You have the rarest opportunity to rack in billions. And you still stay true to your principles. This exactly in turn later enabled AI revolution. I still remember downloading entire SO archives and preparing it for pre-training while Reddit and others went onto lawfare and firewalling the content. Note that this was the content their users - not reddit employees - had created for free and voluntarily to help others and the world. But they locked it all up for profiting from it personally. SO did none of that. I think they knew they will be sacrificed at the altar. Yet it will exactly serve the intent of their founding principles to help others and the world, now through AI, even at bigger scale. All of today’s models are built upon efforts of such true pure hackers who spent their days and years to create training data for AIs. I was a proud SO contributer for many years and there are couple of times while testing models I did felt that models might have used my answers 😇. Hats off to @codinghorror and @spolsky and so many builders and hackers at SO for moving the world forward, one revolution at a time 🫡.

if your work is mostly following instructions, whoever writes those instructions can now just hand them to an agent.
I'm starting to sense a divide in the tech industry: - People thriving on autonomy who are reinventing how they work and what tools they use with AI: LOTS of work, but they're enjoying it and getting very efficient - People used to being mentored / trained / or simply told what to do and how. Frustrated with the lack of guidance from management on what to do with AI; also frustrated by seeing some of their peers thriving; increasingly bitter about AI and the state of the industry, as a whole Neither group seems to be aware that there's another group, or have empathy for the other group

Reading this book As an introvert, I am terrible at asking. Linda lays out, in an easy-to-understand format, how to know what you want and ask for it boldly. The book is full of: - questions - checklists - exercises I’ll be asking a lot.

Agaram 2.5B is out. It's a Tamil-first language model we trained from scratch at @MuraiLabsHQ , our small non-profit lab. As far as we know, it's the first Tamil model trained from scratch that can call tools. It chats in Tamil, Tanglish and English, translates, and can call tools. We're releasing the base model, chat model and GGUF files under Apache-2.0. You can download it and run it offline on your own laptop. The first chat model had a four-day public preview. Seeing where it fell short with real users helped us decide what to work on. We rebuilt the fine-tuning around what we saw, using 222,662 records. Thank you to everyone who spent time with that early version. The video walks through the model. You can try it here: hf.co/spaces/mechramc/agaram… நன்றி 🙏
