One of the only existing groves of American Chestnut trees is scheduled to be destroyed next month to make room for a datacenter. I made an entire video about what this tree meant and the efforts to bring it back that have lasted decades. Consumption knows nothing of sacrament.

El-Sayed: But it is on us to have the empathy to ask, what is it like to be young now? If you’re 26, you were one year old when 9/11 happened. Our country has been at war for most of your life. In 2007, we had this catastrophic financial crisis for which the banks were not held liable. Chances are you or your family or a neighbor lost their home. Donald Trump came down the hideous golden escalator when you were 15 and has been a fixture of politics for your whole adult life. You are 26. If you are young, think about it. We’re always like the young people do not seem to want to get engaged. If that is all I have ever lived, part of me is like, to what end? We have to understand what it is like to be young these days and the incredible act of faith it takes to be invested in your politics, to believe that you can actually solve those problems.

Every Democratic member of Congress should be on a plane to Minneapolis right now to join the people protesting in the streets. Federal elected officials should physically place themselves between the public and these dangerous thugs sent to terrorize this American city.

Thank you so much. I appreciate yours as well. I agree that we were owed more than this and I said as much in a response to Eric Holder. We are still owed more so I hope more is on the way.

BREAKING: Sea Rocket (H1) has returned to Montrose and is likely female!!! Also appears both feet are intact. You may recall H1 departed Montrose with fishing line tangled around one foot. 📸: Phil Stosberg (Sea Rocket, Montrose, Chicago, May 22, 2024)

My time in the 90's Trib composing room was complex. 24yo woman working w/ middle-aged + union printers scarred by the '85 strike. But I can't stress enough how cool it was to paste up Pg 1 adjacent to the press room. The whole building vibrated, a physical reminder of our labor.
Tonight, the Freedom Center prints the Chicago Tribune for the last time. The plant prints almost every paper in Chicago — Sun Times, NYT & more. It’s closing to make way for a casino. Most workers opted to not move to the Trib’s new Schaumburg plant & will lose their jobs.🧵:

Chicago is the most dangerous city for migrating birds per a 2019 Cornell Lab of Ornithology study. Chicagoans, we can change this, if we have the will to do so. We encourage you to pipe up for all birds. Below is one act you can take today.
Building collisions kill millions of birds—like this Blackpoll Warbler—each year. Many of these deaths can be prevented. Urge your members of Congress to support the Bird-Safe Buildings Act—a bipartisan, common-sense solution to prevent bird collisions. bit.ly/4dykolW
