Some revisionists in the Canadian commentariat have trotted the narrative that because Canadian oil production grew in Trudeau years, they were good for the sector. Here S&P Global implicitly addresses the claim:
“Most of today's installed oil sands production capacity is the result of construction between 2009 and 2017 (2018 when we consider time to bring online some of the last facilities). Since then, the construction of new facilities has been rare. Production growth, however, continued largely through operational efficiency projects.”
We have been dining off investments made in the build out before Trudeau. We need to start building new stuff to get back to meaningful growth.

My absolute favorite Roger Scruton quote:
"A conservative is someone who has found something to love and wants to retain it, and to protect it from all the sources of decay. It is a philosophy of love."

It seems more reasonable to say, “I can’t prove God doesn’t exist, but I haven’t seen sufficient evidence that one does, so I won’t live as though it were true,” than to be certain God exists, and even more certain that, of all humanity’s competing versions, you’ve been introduced to the right one.

Truly unbelievable. This began the end of the Trudeau/Freeland era, and will not be touched by MSM press or punditry. Zero consequnces, zero T and A for Canadians…

Conservatives spend too much time fighting conservatives.
In 2025, the CPC won 8.1M votes, 41.3%—its strongest vote share since 1988—and 144 seats.
My point in this clip: the internal fights are real. Deal with the disagreements. Focus on the country.

We're increasingly shifting further left every year.
If we'd realize this and return to our origin point, nearly all our perceived problems would simply go away.

ECONOMIC MEMORY LOSS
“Bad news for young people: Interest rates could go up for decades.”
Really?
From 1946–1981, interest rates rose for 35 years.
Canada simultaneously experienced one of the greatest expansions of productivity, real incomes, infrastructure, homeownership and middle-class prosperity in its history.
Long-term bond yields went from roughly 2.6% to 15%.
The economy didn't collapse.
It transformed.
The mistake is assuming falling interest rates create prosperity.
For forty years, falling rates increasingly inflated the value of existing assets and encouraged leverage.
The coming era may look very different.
❄️ First, higher rates destroy the economics of excessive debt and inflated land values.
🌱 Then capital increasingly migrates toward AI, robotics, energy, infrastructure and productive technology.
That is Schumpeter's Creative Destruction.
And it is exactly what a Kondratieff transition should look like.
People have short economic memories.
History has a very long one.

I am so frustrated by this.
Our audience desperately wants debates on Canadas most pressing issues.
Yet, I can’t get participants.
I’ve tried to organize good faith, Nuanced Debates on:
- Housing
- The Economy
- MAID
- Taxes
Yet again and again, I hear from professors, experts, and commentators that their side is right - and the other side is evil, bad intentioned and not worthy of debate.
I thought once we did the first, people would see that we’re not looking for a food fight we’re looking for honest disagreements.
I just want to recognize @MarkJaccard and @ExnerPirot for coming on and having the conversation.
It takes courage to have your ideas challenged - and I wish more would follow in their footsteps.
DEBATE: Canadian Climate Policy
Energy experts @ExnerPirot and @MarkJaccard join the first-ever Nuanced Debate to examine policies, pipelines, carbon pricing, nuclear power, affordability, energy security and whether markets or regulation can meaningfully reduce emissions.

This is a popular refrain in Canada, but it probably matters what trade and investment the U.S. is pursuing with China vs what trade and investment Canada is pursing with China. These adolescent a Canadian mantras depend on keeping the analysis at the level of the clouds.

‼️The Prime Minister sold Canadians on his financial credentials, and then, when they weren’t looking, took advantage of that trust by inventing financial definitions that are not used anywhere else in the world.
He relabeled $94 billion of expenses as investments.
The former PBO and IMF has called them out, and now the new PBO has gone even further by saying that these invented definitions aren’t even being used consistently and can't be independently replicated.
Why is this government destroying the integrity of Canada’s books?

Judeo Christian morality is very clearly a pre-requisite for high functioning liberalism. What remains unknown is how to save Judeo Christian morality. It’s not at all clear that the answer is - by destroying liberalism.
Tyler Cowen gets Deneen-pilled.
Secular liberalism keeps sawing away at the branch its sitting on.
ALT COWEN: I tend to worry quite a bit, now that we are genuinely less Christian, that this will hurt the chances of liberalism in our future. LOWREY: I think that that might be right. I’m not saying, when I’m talking about the church, the political actor “the church,” which obviously has a very checkered history, but I do think that it was good that you had an institution that was so predominant in people’s lives, reminding them of the importance of sin and of being a person of integrity and caring for the neighbor. Although, then again, the world, as it’s become less Christian, it’s become safer, more redistributive, so I’m not really sure.

One of the reasons that the CBC may be punishing a Jew for filming an antisemitic mob is that an event like this conflicts dramatically from the version of reality that they’re trying to sell to Canadians.
Canada's state broadcaster @CBC, which I, a Jew, have no choice but to support with my taxes, is disciplining a Jewish journalist who works for @CBCNews for filming and posting on this platform actual Jew haters who were verbally attacking Jews as they went to pray on our holiest day. And to make matters worse, police present, from @TorontoPolice, threatened the Jews, not the Jew haters, at the place of worship. This used to be my Canada, but it is no longer.
