NBA 2K27 is officially, in my opinion, one of the worst 2Ks they’ve ever dropped. And I’m getting dangerously close to just calling it THE worst. The crazy part is I don’t even think the game is bad because it’s “too hard.” I think it’s bad because way too much of the gameplay feels inconsistent, unrewarding, and completely disconnected from actual basketball. One possession you get rewarded for making the right read, playing good defense, getting open, or timing something correctly. The next possession the exact same thing happens and the game gives you a completely different result. Shooting doesn’t feel difficult. It feels random. Defense doesn’t feel challenging. It feels like you’re fighting animations. Movement doesn’t feel realistic. It feels like your player is constantly being pulled into whatever animation the game already decided was going to happen. And that’s probably my biggest issue with 2K27. Too many times it feels like you’re not actually controlling your player. You’re suggesting what you want your player to do and hoping the game agrees. Basketball is supposed to reward good decisions. If I create separation, I should feel rewarded. If I play great defense, I should feel rewarded. If somebody takes a terrible shot, they should usually get punished for it. If somebody repeatedly makes bad basketball decisions, eventually that should matter. Instead, 2K27 has way too many possessions where you’re just sitting there thinking, “What exactly was I supposed to do differently?” That is TERRIBLE game design for a competitive sports game. And before somebody says “skill issue,” every bad 2K gets defended with that exact argument until three patches later when everybody suddenly admits the gameplay was broken. There are definitely things I like about 2K27. I’m not pretending the entire game is garbage. But when the actual BASKETBALL part of your basketball game constantly feels inconsistent, animation-heavy, and frustrating instead of competitive and rewarding, everything else becomes irrelevant. 2K has made better games. They’ve made smoother games. They’ve made games where basketball IQ actually felt like an advantage. Right now, 2K27 feels like one of those games where you can play correctly and still feel like you’re wrestling the game itself more than your opponent. And that’s the problem. I don’t want 2K to be easier. I want it to make sense. Because right now? NBA 2K27 might legitimately be the worst 2K I’ve ever played.
